Revision of 'You Know You're Addicted to Gardening When' :
Comments (2)Someone's bound to come on and chastise me, but...About the annuals thing: there was a time 20 yrs ago when your 2nd teeshirt would have been most appropriate in my book. I'll NEVER forget when, 20 yrs ago,3 yrs. after moving here, I met the local garden club president, standing in line at the bank. And I swear to you, I am not kidding, that after I told her about our gardens, she asked me, "What's a perennial?"* But now annuals are yet another extension (along w/ tropicals etc.) of the vast world of "the advanced gardener". My version of your annuals tshirt would say "Friends Don't Let Friends Buy Impatiens" (but then again there ARE some exquisite exotic impatiens...!)and I bet many gardeners have their own fill-in-the-blank dislikes. best, mindy www.cottonarboretum.com/ * I am NOT saying that garden club presidents are all like this. That experience was mine, in my particular town, in 1990....See MoreYou know you're dedicated when...
Comments (14)I still think Rosenpots is NORMAL LOL! compared to my havoc! I've always thought of rose cuttings as a magical "art" that only the arcane rose experts can even come close to duplicating...I've seen like tents! really dedicated to this art...(sort of resembles a child's sheet tent) illuminated from the inside with fluorescent lights). I tried to find a link for it, I believe it was posted here or in the rose cuttings forum a month ago...Pretty fascinating but almost seems rose-fi ....both science and magic, LOL! and space-age dedication... Kentstar you would be amazed at the pic...It may take me a few days to find the photo......See MoreYou know you're in trouble when....(add to the list!)
Comments (123)A friend on a non-hippi list sends a photo of her cool CAKE and there is a hippi in the background. She replies that she knows nothing of this Apple Blossom (not an AB) and you say that it looks like Pink Diamond and suggest she looks it up on the internet. She replies that she did a GOOGLE search for Pink Diamond and lo and behold her search reveals a photo that you took posted on this photo. She then refers to you as a wealth of knowledge and starts bombarding you with questions...and of course you encourage her to join the FORUM!! K...See MoreWhen and how to remove grafts from grafting enclosure?
Comments (4)I can do that Dax! It's supposed to get up to 90F this weekend. So far I've been able to keep the enclosure under just under 80F; the resulting soft, hyper-elongated new growth on the rootstock worries me since that fungus debacle. Those are all Pinus and Picea Nate; the Pseudotsuga rootstock are in pots getting ready for NEXT year. Perhaps we can get some identification tips because Picea and Pseudotsuga are hard for me to tell apart too. The ultimate goal is graft/scab healing Ken. I never realized that this would be a process where one would have to balance out the optimum conditions for healing the graft with maintaining a healthy rootstock. Barbara...See Moreeciton
