Ours was 3K, included all parts, glass, labor. The shower is a modified square shape a square with a slice off of one of the corners. Of course, that's where the door is. He really struggled with getting it all to line up. Mostly because the standard door wasn't the same size as the opening for it and there is an additional trim piece of glass beside the door. Looks great in the end, fainted at the price. Good to see that others are familiar with these kind of numbers. He did everything, measure, fabricate, deliver, install. They were very tall pieces of 3/8" tempered glass. It was no picnic for him!

We have a steam shower. We don't have a rubber membrane all around. We did get the ceiling and walls tiled and we have the glass going all the way to the top to seal it in and a transom over the shower door, but the door is not sealed especially tight. We also made our shower surround out of corian and had a bench made out of the same material as, everyone said, sitting on granite is much colder. We put a light in under the seat as we didn't want to steam with the overhead light on...not pleasant. And we added a speaker into the bathroom so we could have music while steaming. While I use that at other times, you have to really crank the volume up as the steam itself is noisy. The only thing is, I kept telling the project manager I wanted the ceiling slanted so the condensation didn't drip on me when I was steaming. The framers said the tiler could do that, the tiler said the framers should've done that, and it didn't happen. I get a few drips, but it's not bad. Sorry, I can't help with the cost differential.

we too are looking at tiling a new shower. I can tell you there is allot to it if you want it done right. making the thing leak proof is most important, especially since grout is not waterproof. I think for someone to do this right your probably in the right ball park. I have someone coming to look at ours tomorrow, so I can compare the price then. the showers are about the same size, and we too live in a very rural area.

Before we started planning our bathroom remodel, we asked a local realtor to give her opinions. We made it clear that we were not putting our house on the market and offered to pay for her consultation. She declined our offer to pay, but even if she had charged us for a couple of hours of her time, it would have been worth it. We chose someone who had been working in our community for a long time. She was able to give us good information about what buyers expect in our neighborhood and price range. We wanted to find a balance between over-improving vs leaving out something that we would regret later. There were several things that she said we could do to satisfy our own needs/preferences, but not necessary for resale. For example, she said that it was definitely a good idea to replace our fiberglass shower stall, but she assured us that buyers in our area would be satisfied with porcelain rather than natural stone. She agreed that our carpet needed replacing but said it was our choice whether to replace with hardwood vs another carpet. She said that hardwood floors would never hurt future sales but we should not expect to recoup their higher cost where we live. We have chosen to add hardwood in some areas but will not feel bad about keeping carpet in other parts of the house. Using an experienced realtor for consultation was helpful because she could give us a more realistic perspective than we could have obtained by limiting our research to new model homes or watching "must have" decorating shows on TV.
