What do you think of this CL hutch?
Comments (11)So I bought it! It looks a little different than the pic I first posted, here it is at home in the garage where it will live for a little while. I'm rethinking the black and may paint it BM Navajo White, which is the color of my kitchen cabs. I'm a little concerned that my dining room is so dark already that the black will make it too somber in there, but I'll reserve the final decision until after I've painted the primer, then I'll have an idea whether or not I want to go light. I'm thinking about taking that scalloped trim off, the one that sits below the glass doors, something about it just doesn't sit right with me. I'll replace it with something, maybe even just a straight piece of wood, but I don't know yet. Any suggestions for that?...See MoreWhat do you think of this CL hutch?
Comments (19)Patty, thanks for posting the look you want. The scallop might be removable, but if not you could saw it off straight and round the edge if you are good at carpentry (or maybe you have a friend who is). It would be easy to put beadboard, or beadboard wallpaper on the back wall of the scalloped hutch. It would be easy to change the hardware. So it could look pretty neat, I think, but not nearly as primitive as the one the older couple makes. You'd save a bundle, though, and I'll bet it's built to last. As to whether you could get closer, or a better price, you can only know that if you watch your CL closely for a few weeks. If you already have and this is the best you've seen, then grab it. If you're willing to wait and look a while longer, then keep the window open to the search you want ("china hutch") and refresh the window often to see what's the newest listings. If a fabulous price/buy comes up it will go VERY quickly, so write a post and ask if you can come see it immediately if you're even half-way thinking about it. They generally go first-come....See MoreTried to accessorize my hutch... do I dare ask someone to critiqu
Comments (30)I rearranged. How's this? TOP - I currently have the crystal bowl on my buffet in the foyer. It may or may not stay there. Depends on the size of the decorative plate I ordered that hasn't arrived. The decanters tops are off because they were too tall but you can't notice it honestly. I'm not completely attached to the crystal decanters. I just thought they were pretty when I bought them. DH think's it's stupid to have them because we don't really even drink. I could always put the crystal bowl back. And the platter in the middle (casserole thing is on top) that's laying down doesn't fit standing up. I was originally thinking about standing that up and then sticking the blue toile plate in front but the toile plate is also a little too big for the look I was aiming for. I didn't have anywhere to put the cobalt blue butter dish so it's currently between the glasses on the left. Not super attached to that but thought it was pretty and added some color. MIDDLE - The plates DO stand up. Not sure what I was doing the other day with the one side! They are however, wedged in there. A typical plate stand that I'm thinking of won't work because there's just not room. Any ideas? I'm about to slap duct tape to the back of them. BOTTOM- I put the rest of the plates that were originally in the middle, under the saucers and bowls. I tried putting the blue butter dish on the middle silver thing (that has the two blue items) but the base is too wide. BOTTOM BOTTOM :) - Got rid of the roses and stuck it back on the right (which was where it was before I got the idea to deck the top out) I think visually it looked better to have the big silver piece in the middle. I had the blue plate in the middle but the right side just seemed too heavy and I didn't have anything to balance it out right on the left. If I put two items on the left it started to look all jammy on the bottom. *Note -In this pic the plates that were in the middle weren't under the saucers/bowls yet. . . I like the top better nekkid. Think I will stick to doing maybe some seasonal stuff up there. Thanks guys! One more thing - the tassel I have is a curtain tie back. Where does everyone on here get the cute little tassels with the shorter/thin hangers? I searched "decorative tassels" on ebay and got much of what I have there....See MoreDo you mentally re-do every kitchen you see?
Comments (30)I'm SO glad it's not just me! Of course I would never say anything out loud - well, okay I did hint to MIL that changing the colors a bit might liven up her space when she mentioned wanting to add cabinets - but I can't help noticing and planning other people's kitchens. Now, I'm not so bad when it's simply a kitchen that's not to my taste - I'm talking about builder-grade kitchens, or those that have solid construction but nobody ever bothered to think about color schemes or efficiency. Writersblock, that is so funny about your pulmonogist's office floor tile. I get the same urges when I come across design elements I love at unexpected places, like holligator I have not been above taking discreet pictures! The problem is that the ones I see most often are the ones that especially make me want to scream, and of course the owners - not having the benefit of reading this forum - are blissfully unaware. One has the range right up between an open doorway - no frame, no counter - and the other side is the 2' depth of counter space running along the wall at a right angle. There is however a beautiful open space to put in more counters and turn it into a galley kitchen, but no, everything is crammed along a single stretch. Funny enough though, my French aunts have typical teeny-tiny European kitchens where everything is diminutive and there is practically no counter space at all, and it doesn't bother me one bit! Go figure! Of course we don't all have the same needs or tastes, but when I see the UNplanned dysfunction and stubborn ugliness of the kitchens where nobody has ever questioned the original design, I have to wonder, was this really put in ON PURPOSE???...See Morerose246
