It depends on what you mean by lavender. I don't believe lilies have any blue genetics, so consequently, shouldn't have any true lavenders. But I constantly see lilies being referred to as purple or purplish. When I look at these lilies the "purple" looks dark pink to me and the "lavender" look more like a cool pale pink with some reflective sheen. The pinkness of these lilies is especially evident if you compare them to flowers with true blue genetics. For example my lilacs are in bloom now. And my "Midnight" trumpet lily is no where near that kind of blue/purple color. Ditto when compared to my Iris. Yet the lily register has within the description of Mona Lisa "edged ivory white and changing to light to pale purplish pink (62C/D), with lilac purple blush" So, if anything, you can rule out "peach" since it is on the cool side of pink. -Helen

Hi, It's not abnormal since we had such a warm winter and everything is sprouting/blooming early. I hope you planted the bulbs 8 inches deep. The other bulbs will soon catch up and bloom-hopefully on schedule! If not you'll just have early blooms : ) Jen

That sounds like a pretty good sized bulb. Since the orientals are already blooming, odds are you won't have any bloom this year, but you should get the foliage at best. Next year you'll have blooms. That's not to say you won't get blooms; it's possible. I planted some orientals in the late spring last year, and a few of them bloomed, maybe just one bloom or so. I don't know if you can force bloom them inside or not. Any other opinions out there? I've never planted one in a container before. Lilies do like well-drained soil, and to dry out a little between waterings. They are bulbs and too much water will rot them. On the other hand, I've seen my lilies take a lot of abuse from mother nature, and they don't seem to mind too much. Lilies like their feet in the shade and tops in the sun, like Clematis. I don't know about potted lilies, if you should mulch the pot, or set a lot of pots around it might help keep the roots cooler. Good luck. Susan

We need more info. to help you. Are these planted in heavy shade?. How thick is the stalk? (I.e., is it possible these are immature bulbs?) Do you have buds that fail to open or do you not get buds at all? Fertilizer should not be the problem lilies aren't so fussy that it would keep them from blooming. If you move them look at the size of the bulb. That is the most obvious reason for a lily not to bloom. Dried up "aborted" buds would indicate some type of stress. -Helen
