Tree Damage Winter Moth

I'm in Mass. Last Spring was the first time I experienced winter moth. These little green catepillars ate every leave off every tree in my yard (mostly large maples and apples). Apparently they are becoming a problem in my area. The trees sent out a second flush of leaves in June but I have read that repeated instances like this could kill the tree. This year I plan to spray my tree's to avoid the damage. The problem is there are huge trees on my (and my neighbors) property line that were infested last year and are too large to treat (100 feet tall). The catepillars propel down on silk and are carried by wind to other trees in the vacinity. How do I possibly combat this? How do you treat trees that large? Even if I spray my trees, I feel it will wear off with rain and time and the bugs will eventually find their way. I also have small children which makes me hesitant of chemical use. What should I do?

Please help.
