Just a random compliment
Comments (9)Just want to put my "two-cents" in...there has been no one on this forum that has ever made me feel stupid or dumb for asking a question about growing Hosta's...I started growing them about three to four years ago and I'm still asking (what I think are "stupid questions"), but I always get a respectful response. Everyone is so great on this forum, I always start my day reading and enjoying the photo's you all send, one of these days ,when I ever feel confident enough, I'll send you some photo's..Love all you guys!! Comments (20)Thank you, Krista. I'm very much looking forwards to seeing more mature blooms of this rose, which will hopefully look more like what I've seen in pictures. Still, I got quite a thrill when I saw this pretty little bloom. boncrow, I would say 3-4 years and it's still growing. I'm now having to prune it a bit so it doesn't encroach on the other roses or look out of balance in relation to the smaller ones. I bought two more SdlM specimens exactly one year ago and the bigger one is about 2 1/2 feet tall and slightly wider. It has many buds on it. The second one, which is in a shadier spot is only about 18 inches across and 20 inches tall and has no buds. I fertilized some of the roses yesterday and I hope the little one will begin to grow a bit faster....See MoreRandom Pictures Just Because
Comments (62)I never cut the irises, haku, because it's never occurred to me to do so, and I don't know what the purpose would be other than to protect them in a cold climate. I just yank out the leaves that are browning and separate the clumps when they become too large. I've never even fertilized them although I'm sure that would increase the number of blooms. I'm afraid I have a very laissez faire garden since my wimpy energy level doesn't allow me to do much....See MoreA few pictures of random bromeliads to mark the end of 2016
Comments (7)Hi everyone. gyr_falcon - The plant I posted as Alc. 'Silver Plum is a shade over four feet in diameter and about three feet in height. From what I've seen among other growers in my area, Alc. 'Silver Plum' seems to vary a bit in size depending on where it's grown and, as I've been told there are a few different clones, so I imagine it would also depend on which particular clone it is. The largest I've seen was just on five feet in diameter and the smallest about three feet. From what I've read and been told, 'Silver Plum' doesn't produce pups or hair pups and yet my plant came to me from a friend as a pup about 4" high which he described as a hair pup from Alc. 'Silver Plum'. Whether this was an accident of nature, or whether it isn't a true 'Silver Plum' I don't know, but according to all who have seen it so far (including some specialist Alcantarea growers) they are all of the opinion that the plant is a 'Silver Plum'. and as my knowledge of this genus is very limited I have accepted their opinion as they are more knowledgeable on this genus than I. All the best, Nev...See Moredavez7anv
