Trying to ID a Daffodil

I bought a bag of mixed daffodil about 10 years ago in Texas. I relocated them last fall and they are in full bloom now. I just notice this type of daffodil which is different from all the others.

The flowers are double, not the typical trumpet shaped. As expected, the flowers are smaller than the typical single large flowers. It has strong jasmine/gardenia flavor fragrance. Now I think the flowers look like gardenia.

It's a Tazetta type Narcissus. Compare with Cheerfulness. Tazettas are multi headed and scented.

I'd agree with floral, except to go further and suggest that this is 'White Cheerfulness'. It also comes in a the standard daffodil yellow color as 'Cheerfulness'.

One of my favorite narcissus because of the multiple flowers per stem and the sweet fragrance.

To me they appear to be Van Sion Daffodils, which are commonly found on old homestead sites. I have some of these I got from my family when they lived at an old house in Michigan, they were very crowed and they were just leaves so I did not know what to expect for the flowers. I also wanted to mention you do not have to necessarily wait until fall to dig some of them up, you can dig them up with foliage, even while there in bloom if your careful! The key is to leave as much dirt around the plant as possible, so you don't disturb there very delicate roots. I dug up my bulbs when the plants were in full green leaf and they bloomed a few blooms the following 1st spring afterward, and right now there loaded with even more buds then last year! Thank you Daffodilgirl for for the info. I am also trying to ID it myself thru the net but no result. Sue, this daff came with the house. It is about 100 years old from what my husband told me. He is the third owner and never moved or touch anything from the garden except the peonies which he dug because of the ants. I am thinking that this is an heirloom. Yes, it is a daffodil, though it would be nearly impossible to identify the cultivar and be 100% certain of it. I've been told there are approximately 25,000 different cultivars. Sue

You may have to settle on a 'Papillon Type' for this one unless a fancier happens by. Some Daff's have an annoying habit of changing shape and even color depending on weather, soil and other factors making ID more difficult. Here is a link that might be useful: Division-11

RedSun - 'Cheerfulness' is in the bottom row of photos second from right. They have no relationship to Gardenias. Narcissus 'Cheerfulness'

Cheerfulness is multi-headed, like all Tazettas. Your original picture of your own plant shows what appears to be a small-flowered, multi-headed Narcissus. Hence the suggested Cheerfulness id.

I'm not sure of the relevance of Obdam which is not a Tazetta type. It is large flowered and it isn't multi headed. It may look a bit like a Gardenia insofar as it is a whitish, double, fragrant bloom but there is no botanical connection and the comparison appears to be solely a marketing strategy. Your flower isn't Obdam.

Flora, I think you are correct. I was not disputing it, but just trying to find some info. It appears there are several Narcissus like this. They all claim to be like gardenia.
