Can any of you paint the two colors I posted about on my walls? I have no idea how to do that!

Are accent walls in bathrooms a faux paux thing? Especially it it's paint and not stone or tile or something like that?

You also need to make sure it isn't too dark to allow a decent contrast against the dark vanity.

I think a bathroom is generally too small and area for an accent wall. You don't want to chop up a small space where you aren't likely to gain much depth or added effect. You could wind up accenting the white porcelain throne. I also think that if you have one or two in a house, that's plenty. Some folks will tell you to avoid them altogether.

Even of the shower is an alcove, for lack of better description? I have seen some model homes with an accent color above the shower surround in the alcove, and it looked nice. Maybe that is too much though. I really like the almost-navy but it would be way too dark to do the whole bathroom that color. There is only that one small window.

I vote for the lighter gray. Thre other gray is too much like your tile color, too much the same. And I vote no navy. They all have undertones and unless you want to color match the navy towel it will clash. I like the gray w your towel choices.

Thanks. If I did something that would clash with navy guest towels, I'd get some white ones. The blue ones are getting kinda old anyway. :)

So far it's the lighter one. Unless I find a way to work in some navy somehow. :)

A deeper hue of a bright color will give that bathroom brightness and energy because of the small window and lack of natural light. Light colors get washed out in low-light rooms and they need the deeper pigment of color.

I really like 6 and 11 - with white towels. Or orange towels with #11.

I like 6 and 11, but I also like 2.

Lighter colors reflect light, but that doesn't always make a space look larger. In fact, it can make the light walls seem closer, more in your face in a small space, while a darker color makes walls seem to recede. They can actually make a space feel larger, but you need good lighting.

I have BM Lucerne, and it definitely reads slightly teal.

I like #6 but would probably try even darker. Also really like 11. It gets the undertones right.

Gentleman's Gray is also very nice.

My hubs is on board with 2 or 8. Is 8 a blue or a gray? I mean, I understand color is whatever the viewer sees it as...but...I was just curious what color you all say it is. LOL.

Is Naval similar to Newburyport Blue? I'm still pretty intrigued by that one too. Might get samples of all 3. :)

That window faces northeast. It still gets a decent amount of light all day.

Will that direction influence which to choose? Is there an undertone to watch out for with it facing that way?

One last question...I want to minimize the redness of the floor. Or maybe it's orangeyness? I love the grays and browns in there, but not so much the redness. Will picking the one with the least red (I think that would be Naval, according to a color encyclopedia site I found) minimize the red/orange in the floor the best? Or will any of them do that because, well, they're all blue after all?

I find myself laughing AT myself. Because I never imagined this bathroom to be navy. Ever. Probably because a lot of the rest of the house is blue? I dunno. Maybe because the one that uses it the most is my daughter, and her room is frilly and the blue seems so sophisticated? varsity? I don't know what word I'm trying to come up with. I already have artwork picked out and it's not going to matter which of these colors I choose. :) They'll be in white frames with real wide white mats. Considering replacing the mirror too, but I'm not sure I want to do that. It should be textured behind it just like the rest of the wall right? I wouldn't put it past the home builder to have taken THAT shortcut, as lame as that sounds.

And with any of these darker colors, I'm going to ditch the navy blue towels (well, donate them to the animal shelter) and get some white ones for guests. My daughter could still use the pink and orange, and my stepson orange (he's not here all the time). Think I will get new rugs, these were cheap enough and look off I think...or at least a second set and can toss out there for when guests are here. Maybe even the orange towels look funny? Don't forget it's a kid bathroom 97% of the time. :)

The gray in your floor appears to have blue green undertones, so I like #6. It looks great with the brown and gray floor and the vanity, which is quite a feat to marry the deep rich brown with the black. Navy isn't a good choice with a black vanity.

So cyberspace is a blue gray? So it may look gray sometimes and bluer other times? Or might it look bluer no matter the lighting, once it's on all walls?

I just went back and reread some comments.

My flooring has green undertones? I'm stumped. I see gray and brown and red.

Our vanity is chocolate/espresso/can't remember the real name, but dark brown with no red in it.

I think the Cyberspace would be VERY dark in there. I like that Newburyport Blue, though, and think it would be pretty neat.

Some people can't see or have a hard time seeing undertones. Look at the tile as you go through the differnt wall colors. See how the blues pull out more color in the grey, especially certain shades? That's the blue undertones in your grey. For my preferences at least, and it seems a lot of others, pulling out that grey and cooling down the orange in the tile is why I would favor a grey-blue or blue-grey.

See how that last one seems to have SO much more orange in the tile? That's the red/pink in the wall color pulling out those tones. All browns have red -- part of the makeup of the color. A brown can be fairly well balanced and not seem red -- unless you put the wrong color with it.

If you have a harder time seeing the undertones, it can help to look at two similar colors next to each other and seeing the differences -- how one my be more pinking or hae a tinge more green, etc. Looking at how other colors react to it is more the result, but if that works for you, what it compliments may help too.

I'm surprised that #2 above is naval -- I would exect that to look darker on the wall and for that to be more how Newburyport Blue would look. That's the directions I'm leaning, but blue is a constant in my life while greys come and go. ;-)

As you are asking a colour choice for your bathroom so it must be clear
and in such a shade that dust and dirt always gets highlighted properly
so that it can be cleaned. So i would prefer a light colour now it is
upon you if you like ivory or beige.

That Batik and Newburyport Blue are very, very close to each other. Looking forward to seeing which you choose.

I hate the shininess of SW satin paint. I think it makes it more difficult to see the color.

I think newburyport blue has a smidgen of green or something in it. It almost approaches a tealish-look.

Is SW Naval darker than Hale Navy? If it is, I don't think I'll bother getting a sample. So far I like the bluer Indigo Batik, but I think I need to look at them separately to decide. I also need to change the lighting in there. The light is very yellow. What's the best kind of bulb for the bathroom that's not yellowy? I think I need to change bulbs in there before I decide. We have a 3 bulb fixture above the mirror, the bulbs point down (you can see them...they are regular bulb shaped), and I'm not even sure what kind of lights they are. It's what the builder put in, and the mark says Haleo, though I've Google that and came up empty.

I like the Indigo Batik. I also think the sheen might be good for light reflection. I am a big fan of blue in any shape anyway (but I still might be a tad concerned about how dark it will be. )

The sheen will be less of an issue when it is painted on the wall. Right now, you are seeing bumps and curls caused by wet paint on the paper. I do like the color and think that would be my pick of the three. Either that or lighter and greyer, but of the darker ones.....

Halogen are usually a whiter light, but they are also hot. If you are going to replace bulbs, I would look for an LED. Even the warm white at 2700k are usually not as yellow as some incandescents and aging flourescents. I like 3000-3500k for a cleaner white. Above that gets into daylight and harsher, then into into that bluer lighting.

BTW, I have krypton bulbs in my dining room chandelier. They helped get the blue wall color right. I ad to buy them from a lighting specialty store, but they were the right solution at the time. I'm still hoping for more LED chanddelier bulbs on the horizon, but you might want to look at krypton or xenon bulbs if you need a pretty chandelier bulb. CCOr let me know if you find a good LED one. ;)

I replaced the bulbs in our greatroom with 3k led bulbs. They are SO bright. Luckily they all have dimmers because we always have to dim them some. Is there another number on them that I can tweak or look at to get 3k led bulbs that aren't so bright? The bathroom is not on dimmers.

Of your two original choices I would use the lighter color. I am not a fan of blue with that floor tile, and to me, dark bathrooms often look dirty.

There are wattage differences (sometimes hard to find because they give you the equivalent, but either way the energy usage is a starting point) and you can look for lumens ratings - which is the light output. But it is not a big deal to add a dimmer. Just make sure you get one that handles the wattage you will have. Some older ones won't go down far enough to dim the lower wattage bulbs.

I would go with your first darker choice and do something colorful on your walls.

Looking at this today, I like the Newburyport Blue. Hope you are seeing them in different lights and trying new bulbs with them so you can try to make that call.

I think Newburyport Blue is also my favorite, though I'm not sure how different any of them will really look on the actual walls when we can't compare the three. They are all beautiful blues.

I like the Newburyport Blue. I think it has the most "life" and vibrancy of the three.

I like both of the top ones so far. So much that I haven't bothered to go get SW Naval because I think it would be too dark anyway.

I wish I could get a sample of the Indigo Batik in something with less sheen but all SW does samples in is satin, and that paint is definitely dry. Maybe looking at them again with less light coming in that window will help. Or moving it to a different wall. I will be moving them around and checking them out at several times of day before deciding. I was hoping to have done that yesterday but yesterday was not a good day on the toddler-front so hopefully today.

For children, I would choose a light color - dark rooms can be scary to children, but they are nice for adults. I would ask the kids what they prefer.

Indigo is between blue and violet and I do see purple undertones.

Have you considered that you have no middle tones in the room? Everything's very dark except for the white fixtures. It's kind of a weird design path you're going down.

It will look great if you get white towels and colorful artwork up on that blue.

And today I stumbled upon Sherwin Williams Distance. I can't decide if that might be a good option for this bathroom. Lots of color, but not as dark as navy...

Can't decide how it would be different than Indigo Batik. Lighter and more grey? Maybe? Maybe it's TOO grey?

Okay, you are completely caught in the eddy of picking paint color, so I'm going to throw you a lifeline to get you out of that endless, swirling hole.

Here are the Distance (very nice color) and the Indigo Batik. Do not look at or for any more colors. Go out and get sample pints of the Distance and Indigo Batik and paint large swatches of each on all four walls (or however many walls you have with wall space which will be painted). Paint the swatches so that they run up to the ceiling ,down to the baseboard, behind the toilet, next to the sink, window, shower, etc., because it is the paint contrasted with the other elements in the bathroom that will help you know which is the right color.

Live with it for a few days, going in periodically and seeing what your immediate reaction is when walking in.

Then, make a decision, go get the paint for that color, paint the bathroom, and do not look back.

Thanks a million Tibbrix. Believe it or not, I'm not really in the swirling hole of paint colors. I had to put selecting paint for this bathroom on the backburner because of some other things going on in life. I wasn't even looking FOR paint colors, lol, but the other day I was on Pinterest looking at storage options for toys, and a pin with this color popped up on my feed and it really caught my eye. It doesn't seem QUITE as dark as the others, and, at least on my monitor, seems to not have the green I see in the Newportbury Blue. Think it would lean purple? I think I'd rather lean green than purple.

I'm going to do just what you suggested, pick two and paint splotches all over and go from there.
