Any Tips On Growing Herbs On A Windowsill

User

I've never grown herbs indoors. But I now have a big new window in my kitchen that gets sun from morning through late afternoon. So last weekend I switched out the shamrocks I'd had there since March for some herbs. L to R - mint, rosemary & cilantro.

They came fresh from the nursery in good soil and I put a couple inches of crushed stone in the bottom of my pots for drainage. The mint & cilantro have grown a lot in the past week and look like they already need a trim.

Any tips on the best way to do that. Directions only say to water when dry. Any other suggestions to keep them going for a while?

I'm in northern New England where we're still getting freezing temps some nights. Hoping to keep them thriving till I can transplant them to my outdoor herb garden at the lake in June.

Since these are culinary herbs, which are used all the time here and I suspect many of you grow, I hope it's okay to ask in Cooking ;)
