Comments (16)The weather was indeed perfect, albeit hot and humid for such a meeting. Saratoga is a lovely, small and old city with lovely architecture. I was right at home with the horse statues that lined the lovely main boulevard called Broadway! Saratoga as you may know is home to some very elite horse racing, amoung other things. Raeanne and I met early and perused the shops before meeting DeeMarie. I spotted Raeanne immediately at our meeting place. Her hair is done in a modern cut that kicks out in a playful way! I love the color and style Raeanne, it's so you! Her eyes are still a beautiful and brillant blue! After shopping we went to the meeting place for Dee but she wasn't there so we proceeded to the restaurant meeting place. As we were crossing the street I could see a woman waving in our general direction and I knew at once it was DeeMarie!! How wonderful that she spotted us and I felt so special that as I waved, she waved back. It was a fun exchange. So it was there at the restaurant that I meet our wonderful DeeMarie. She has the most wonderful and expressive big brown eyes and I knew at once that I had a wonderful and caring friend for life! It's amazing at how we women, and man, communicate and have become such fast friends! We shared a wonderful lunch. Okay, Dee and Raeanne did. I had the luck to order one of the worst things I have ever had and it was ironic a because everyone else had a wonderful meal before them...........figures. We shared a bottle of lovely white wine alfresco which was really good against the heat of the day! After lunch we went to our card reading................boy was that enlightening!! This woman had a great deal to tell me that was very accurate!! She is a gifted woman and I think we all came away with some new info!! Then we toured the shops of Broadway, Saragoga Springs, NY. It was fun, fun, fun but way too short a time. I had to depart by 3:30-4:00 to be back in time to feed my steeds.................I could have stayed and talked all night! I had a lovely ride home full of fond memories of my time with my sisters. Ladies and gent, we must find a way for more of us to have this meeting and connection! BJ, I am sure that Las Vegas is too far for some but we sure should try to all connect.............it's so much fun. Thank you DeeMarie and Raeanne for a very special day....See MoreContextual Beauty___or a Good Fit.
Comments (148)I forgot to say that Kahn is rather unpopular in Philadelphia, and in the US in general. I am not an uncritical fan of his work, but I like some of it, and for a builder in a rather ugly style, he managed to do it quite beautifully on occasion. He lived less than a block from where I sit, in a 19th c. house, in a neighborhood that was not that great in his lifetime. It was interesting in My Architect how people talked to his son about hating his buildings, Edmund Bacon called him an idiot (or something like that) and yet people in the Institute of Public Administration, at Ahmedabad, India, (1963) got practically teary-eyed talking about their buildings, and his death, decades later. Incidentally I looked at a house which may have been designed by Anne Tyng, one of his baby-mamas (for shorthand)...it was interesting, executed at a time when either technology or money was lacking to meet the design, and out of my budget....See MoreLandscape Design -- Modern Home
Comments (12)If someone is doing landscape design for you, you should be familiar enough with their work to know that you like and respect it. That will give you confidence that they can do something similar for you. If you are unfamiliar with their work, then it's a crap shoot. There are plenty of pros delivering mediocre work. If you're not sure if they're a landscape designer, you had best do some research. Someone who is primarily an installer may do a so-so design. Landscape is about setting, which is what's missing from your pictures. We can only see what's in front of the house. If you returned to the place where the above picture was taken and aimed the camera left, then right, showing the homes at each side, you could capture the rest of the view. Your large entrance area and the roof over the porch has architectural integrity and looks complete. I don't think any columns are necessary or desirable as they will tighten the opening. I like the idea of large, full porch and steps. I would do a derivation of an "S" curve and keep the walk away from the house so as to have proper room for plantings. The way to cheapen look of plantings is to have tightly pinched beds that are unrealistic for plant size....See MoreNeed help in creating our backyard (hot tub) oasis!
Comments (47)Thank you @HU-257553069!!! :) By 1/3 you mean all same size slabs but all set subway tile style to every third? just trying to make sure I understand what you describe... I looked at Permacon too but the Colors were busier and not as light (the ones in the display).. I thought lighter would look nicer. There’s the Blu smooth in Beige cream too but I wasn’t too sure if there was actually too much yellow for the cream/grey/orangy/browny colour of the house. yes was thinking of adding a sectional in the top Right corner with a table and high potted planters. i Also want to add 2 lounge chairs, and a fire pit... not sure where to put everything. the hot tub will be on the left as pictured. There will be 23 feet of interlock up to the first column (from the house). After that 4 feet from the column (as it is right now). The set up is stressing me out too. Is it okay to have more than one seating area? And to have areas that do not necessarily face each other? finally, not sure if you have an idea but I was going to do a 3 post pergola over the hot tub (with a bar facing the river) but I am thinking the post near the corner sofa will be in the way (Of people in the hot tub, on the sofa or sitting at the bar). What about a half pergola (only 2 posts on the Left, facing the left neighbo)? it would give some height, some warmth with the wood and something to hang lights to. Apologies for the really long post!!...See MoreYardvaark
