I spent the last several days in Maine helping to pack up my father-in-law's house. He decided last summer that he probably wouldn't be able to stay there next summer, and to instead sell the house. Over Christmas much of the family gathered there to clean the house, divvy up much of the furnishings, and to stage the place for sale. Well, it did sell. Closing was this past Friday. My wife and I and one of her brothers and one of her sisters were there packing up all of the remaining stuff One 16' moving truck drove off bound for Massachusetts and Rhode Island. We drove the other 16' truck to Connecticut, New Jersey, and finally back to Virginia.

We were so busy that I didn't get but a few pictures, but here are a few from past visits.

We'll probably go back at some point to visit her cousins, but , of course, it won't be the same.

What a gorgeous home!!! It looks so homey and inviting, I'm sure it sold quickly.

It is a lovely house, especially considering that this is the view from the kitchen window

It also has beautiful, well-tended gardens

including prolific raspberry bushes

Although the interior hasn't been updated for quite some time (this is pre-cleaning and staging)

and the layout (especially upstairs) is somewhat dysfunctional, with low, head-bonking ceilings, and a bath room that is also functions as the only hallway between one bedroom and the rest of the upstairs. Additionally we were concerned that the condition of the rubble foundation might frighten potential buyers, or cause them to demand extensive, expensive repairs even though the foundation has been unchanged for decades.

So although we thought it was a good house in a great location, and will be somewhat sad that it is gone, we are happy and thrilled that it sold as quickly as it did, especially since the buyers seem to love the house.
