Most web sites appear differently on cell phones and other mobile devices.

Different operating systems, different browsers equals different appearances.

These changes just happened late today. I only have my phone to use the internet and access the kt.

I'm not sure if I like the "new"...I keep getting the message, {please confirm your email ....) and I've tried to do it and nothing, just keeps coming back.....

No changes here at the desktop computer at the library.

All I can do on my phone is ... talk! No pictures to look at ...

... (can one talk and look at pictures at the same time?).

How about listening while looking at the pictures - that should be less stressful?

Oh that is great news! That has been my only complaint that it is very hard to read on my mobile devices including my android tablets. It has been better than it was originally so you are making progress!

I have gotten the confirm your account message but I just ignore it and everything works fine. Usually when I switch to another browser (which I do sometimes)

Since we're on the subject, there's another annoying new feature that I'd like houzz to get rid of.

I don't always log into the account unless, I'd like to join in the conversation or post. Basically, I'd like to read more than posting. Plus sometime, I'm looking for certain information such as recipes in the Cooking forum.

However, in the past days, a "Access All Gardenweb" message that is about half of the webpage blocks up the view. It forces me to sign in which I don't like having to do so each time I visit KT/Cooking forums. This is so annoying that I'm beginning to stop here less and less.

Wish Houzz can stop forcing readers like me to sign in. I don't see the benefit of it.

Btw, this is not a tablet or Iphone issue. I'm using Win7 on a pc.

@ntt_hou are you signing out each time you leave the site? You won't get signed out automatically (the sign in lasts a very long time) and you won't see that banner if you are signed in like you are right now.

With the new format..the ability to add a link and name it is not available. I used that a lot before the change.

@Emily Hurley... Yes, that's understood. However, I'm not on the computer all day long and is not convenient for me to always log into Houzz/GW whenever I quickly need to look up for something. Besides, I don't go back to Houzz/GW when I log out so, why leave it open?

I neither like to keep a webpage open unnecessarily or when not in use. The pc slows down when you have too many tools (windows) open.

I never log out. Being logged in or logged out is decided merely by the existence or non-existence of a login cookie. No connections are kept open, no resources are used.

When you visit Houzz/Gardenweb, a check is made to see if you have a valid login cookie. If you do, you're treated as being "logged in", if you don't, you're treated as being "not logged in".

If I'm misunderstanding, Emily Hurley will correct me. :-)

the link option is still there once you open a reply box it is right at the bottom along with the Italics and Bold and photo options. Just click on the link option and type in the name you want to use then the link address in the box and submit it. see...

@ Richard... You mean you don't clear out all your cookies and history, etc. when you close your browser? It's better to do so.

You do that every time you close your browser? That would drive me nuts having to log back into everything I use regularly like email, Facebook and forums every day.

History, yes. Just out of habit.

Cache, yes. I realize it's overkill and can slow down subsequent page loads. Again, just a habit.

Cookies, no I never delete them but I block all(even first party) cookies except those I deem worthy. Those I add to the exceptions list. Again, very unnecessary and occasionally burdensome, some would accuse me of paranoia but I don't do it out of fear.

BTW, no one else has access to this machine. I allow my browser to save passwords for convenience. Cookies for the same reason. That's just what works for me, in my situation.

I never sign out of Garden Web either. No need. There's nothing personal, and it's just me that reads it. Just last week I cleared my history, it took forever, LOL. Cookies, etc don't bother me.

Whenever I clear my history, which I do several times a week, I have to log back in. I didn't used to see the annoying banner when I did this, but would have to sign in again to post, of course. The banner is super-annoying to me!

Oh, I'm on my computer and I don't see a banner, the only thing I see at the top is the Search box.

What I would like to see is the number of pages at the top of the page as well as the bottom. Instead of jumping to the bottom to click on a page we could do it at the top.

@Chi83. Yes, I set the system up so it does it automatically. It's a good practice for me to sign in each time. It helps me to remember the different user names & passwords that I set up for different sites.

@Jasdip. The banner appears as you scroll down the page. If you're either at the top or bottom of the page, the banner won't be there.

If the banner is smaller/less, it wouldn't have bothered me. But this thing takes half of the page. The message that I get from it is that either I'm allowed to read by logged in or not at all. If this forum was a paid membership, I can understand this restriction. However, it's not! Is Houzz trying to turn away readers? What's their point?

I agree the banner and even the "claim account" box could be seen as "annoyances" by some. Perhaps they need a "Yes, I get it." button that sets a cookie causing it to go away, at least until you lose the cookie.

If you adblock, they can be hidden by adding these two filters:

Or if you happen to use the browser add-on "Stylish", the themes I wrote now hide them. The others may or may not, I don't know.
