I agree with mandolls....fluorescents don't put out much heat compared to incandescent, but it still puts out noticeable heat which surprised me. I am also a newbie and need to invest in a soil thermometer, but I can tell by experience so far that the shelf I added immediately above my top tier 4' 2 bulb fluorescent light fixtures stays a nice comfortable "warm" and has been perfect for germinating all manner of vegetables so far. You could even box in (or just tent it with plastic) the area above the light and it would become even warmer but that's not necessary for my setup inside the house where the air temp is usually 70-75 anyway. With a cooler basement setup you may want to build a sort of grow box to trap more of the heat rising from the light fixture as your germination station. Now I've just planted daylily seeds on the rack to germinate so we'll see how they do but I expect good results. Good luck with your seed starting!

I put wildflower mixes together. They all seem to be sprouting well. I don't know what they are unfortunately, but I think they'll look nice together.

In my opinion, outdoor heat, humidity and air circulation are best this time of year for rooting plumeria where you are. If you can let it get sun all morning then shelter in the afternoon that would be optimal. In that kind of heat the occasional bit of rain shouldn't hurt it, either, as long as it's not sitting in soggy soil. Most of my cuttings get several hours of blistering sun--morning to early afternoon--and a few have sunburned stems, but that won't stop a cutting from rooting if it's meant to root. Just my opinion. You can protect the stems with cardboard tubes from paper towel or t.p. rolls, too, if you're worried about stem burn. Good luck.

They slow down in food guzumption as the temps get lower. Mine were in the basement and things seemed slow (I have only a small bin for right now). I moved them upstairs into a cupboard in my kitchen and am married to a man with a very sensitive nose ('sniff sniff, what smells?', or 'sniff sniff something stinks!'), yet he has not figured out my worm bin. Of course I only check on my little lovelies when big lovely is out of the house, but no smell.
