The first question is, do they need to function? Do you need light control? Room darkening? Privacy daytime? Privacy nighttime?

I would not do anything in dark colors. I prefer things to be light and bright. I would have cellular shades that can be kept up during the day and pulled down at night. I would add softness with some kind of fabric treatments.

The photo I posted above was taken on a rainy day so it does not actually look this dark inside. Its a pretty lit room that I keep shades open during the day.

The cellular shades I liked were similar to in photo. I thought the dark color looked great against the wall paint compared to the lighter shades. As for function, I dont want anyone to see inside my house at night but I dont need blackout shades during the day either. Thoughts?

Those aren't Cellular shades! Those are Pleated Roman Shades. I would also not do brown for the shades, with your dark cabinets and darker paint color.

Thanks Chispa - you are so right..sorry I've been looking at SO many different kinds and bouncing between these and the others which were cellular. I'm beginning to doubt the dark color now that a few have pointed them out as not working too well with this room.

Maybe wood blinds? I can do 2.5 inch faux wood blinds in a white? This would match the trim we have (the back door still needs painting of trim). If I did this, then it would save some money since I would not need to replace the one above the sink.

I have these shades from Bed Bath and Beyond in one room that allow me to have them open and closed fairly easily. On the front side of my house I have roman shades, but I leave those at the same opening bc I like them all lined up straight from the outside. So, for daily open and close you may like the one I posted. They are like a cheaper Silhoutte.
