Gardening Sale at Dollar General Stores
Comments (0)I live in Louisiana and just visited the local Dollar General Stores (yellow sign with black writing). They have pots and garden supplies 50% off. I got 3 inch, brown, plastic, starter pots with holes in the bottom of them 10 / 50 cents so I ended up with 60 pots for $3. And they had 8" plastic pots with pretty flower designs for $1 each. They also had the fake terracotta plastic pots for around $4 each. So if you like gardening sales this is a good one. Best to you,Sandra...See MoreDollar Store products
Comments (10)Redcurls, copyright laws are complicated and I understand the apprehension, but one is allowed to quote from a published piece of work in order to discuss it. A work cannot be copied in its entirety. BTW paraphrasing can still be copyright infringment if the entire work was paraphrased. I know of two cases where an entire work was paraphrased. Anton LeVey's best selling and only book, has been proven to have been lifted and paraphrased from an obscure 1880's published book. I read in the news about a Valedictorian who was stripped of the title when it was discovered that an essay he had 'written' had been lifted and paraphrased from The Onion newspaper. Although neither of these cases were prosecuted under copyright laws, it is written into copyright laws that paraphrasing a work and selling it, can be prosecuted. One of the things that defined with copyright laws is if the person made money off of the copying of the work and distibutring it OR, did they copy and distribute the work with malice, to short the sale of said work. The profit angle is often part of copyright prosecution. For instance if you created a website as a fan club for your favorite rock star and put of photos to admire, it would probably not be prosecuted unless you started charging a membership to join or made money off of it in some other way, like by selling advertising space on the site or asking for "donations". This is how Wikipedia got into trouble, and has now removed all photos that had been put up that are not in public domain. Generally if one has inedvertantly broken copyright law the owner of the material will send a cease and desist letter. If there is compliance there will not usually be any prosecution. Court battles are expensive and are wished to be avoided by both parties....See MoreDollar Stores
Comments (25)I'm another fan of Dollar Tree. I think some of the other "dollar" stores are misnamed, as their stuff costs a lot more than $1. I bought some very nice martini glasses and wine glasses at Dollar Tree, made in the Netherlands. I like their Dead Sea Minerals creams (for hand & body, feet, etc.), made in Israel. Their bottled water comes from a domestic source and is pretty good. I like their small yellow "legal pads," three for $1. It's where I go for birthday gift wrap and (sometimes) cards. And I get all my cat litter there. I've studiously avoided their cellophane packs of nuts from Thailand ever since I found a large insect part in one of them (!), but their Monet crackers (from Canada) are great for a party. In my popcorn days I liked Herr's Lite Popcorn, which they still sell at Dollar Tree. Big Lots isn't a dollar store, but I check it out when I can. Their inventory changes all the time, and if you're lucky you can find a great bargain. I get rug pads there, and scored a great latex pillow and some Calphalon kitchen towels once. I always check out their makeup aisle. I get most of my teas there (from England, Sri Lanka, etc.), and occasionally find good brands of health foods in their grocery aisle. I've gotten some great pickles, salad dressing, and other top branded food products there. I do look at the expiration dates. And in my chocolate days (around the same time as my popcorn days), Big Lots was a fine source! Susan...See MoreDollar Store Spray bottle
Comments (17)I had one plastic bottle fail. It was filled with a liquid that was mostly water. The botle had been dropped from a height of about 5 ft and landed square on its bottom on a hard surface. The shock force can be quite large. The bottle developed a split where the bottom meets a vertical wall and quickly spilled its contents. This surprised me but I can see why it might have failed. Most soft plastics have enough elasticity to dull the shock front, but some plastics may behave in a brittle manner if it required to stretch too quickly. Polycarbonates (tradename Lexan for example) can fail in unexpected ways after being exposed to certain detegents and solvents and then exposed to UV light. What seemingly was an elastic material can then behave more like glass. I know of a case where the polycarbonate top of an "iron lung" fractured sending shards to the face of the attending physician. According to the investigation, the material failed after being exposed to sanitation fluids and then having x-rays shot through it. The air pressure of the interior was modulated from low to about 1.5 atmospheres to cause artifical breathing by the patient. The cover 'exploded' on a positive pressure pulse....See Moreravencajun Zone 8b TX
