floating cabinets are not level but the countertop got installed!
Comments (12)I just had 3 cm quartz countertop installed onto a completely serviceable set of 1979 walnut motif cabinets over a 50 foot x 2.2 foot wide kitchen cabinent run. (The only thing missing compared to today's products is the concealed European hinges/springs - happily I convinced my wife that my old hinges, although a bit old-fashioned, are serviceable, Counter guys came and templated the job putting a joint mid-point at the new composite white sink placement and at one side of the stovetop. The templaters were then the installers a week later. After they prepositioned the 3 pieces of ca. 500 pounds quartz pieces they called my attention to the fact that my cabinents were not level and proposed some "on the fly" leveling with wedges along the entire 50 foot run. Because that effort seemed to me to be unruly amd imprecise, I told them just to minimize discontinuities at the sink and cooktop joints while I wasn't looking. The project turned out great with an almost imperceptable lack of parallelism at the vertical at the front sink joint (This avoided shimming all over the place to correct a 0.5" runout error over the 50 foot run which except to a 0.16" modestly imperfect joint; because it is quartz, one cannot tell much by looking, but the level tells the story with which I easily live with!...See MoreMajor setback. Would appreciate advice. :(
Comments (45)Chellamaral, there was tile EVERYWHERE in this house and it only bled through in one area - a back bathroom. I think the grout was white, but I believe it was white all over the house . The tile that bled was the only original tile from 1958 left, so maybe that had something to do with it. To be honest, it didnt look that bad. One contractor was kind enough to tell me that if he stained the existing concrete, I would have ghosting every where. The current contractors said the same thing, hence the overlay. My friend just used the same contractor, and their existing floor was good enough to stain w/no overlay. I will ask the flooring guy why some floors are good tomorrow. I didnt get any pics of the bathroom, but here is an example I found online: Pip is doing well. He is a male parakeet. I already have two small (potty trained!) parrots, and wasnt looking for any more birds, but little Pip needs someone. His wings are cut (badly) and his nails are VERY long, but he seems tame. I have scoured the internet and no one has posted a lost ad in that area. My friend says that there are lots of foreclosures where she found him, and she thinks someone just let him go. How could someone let a bird that cant fly "loose?" It is bound to be eaten by a cat. I will probably get him a girlfriend and a bigger cage, once I move into the new house. There will actually be a bird room for my two birds. I love my birds, but had I known how much time/attn. they require, I would have thought twice before buying them. Below is my Rocky (post bath) and Zeek. I had an AC contractor look at the ducts. He said I have a HUGE underground duct with branches to the rooms, and moving the current ducts would be fine. The ducts are moved now and they have laid the first coats of overlay. Unfortunately, the scoring is still showing through and looks terrible! They are laying another coat tomorrow, but I am not confident it will disappear. I am not sure I am willing to pay 1k for the scoring, since the last one was wavy. I told him to cover it up and assume I am not scoring. kitchen: living room moved to bar: I love the reto renovation site! Thank you for the link. LOL@the 90's song posted on there. I will keep you guys updated! Thank you for your help. :)...See MoreReplacing faded unstained cabinet walnut fronts
Comments (20)Those are really super extra faded! I've never seen walnut look like that. It usually stops at a nice rich orange. You're losing your stripes!! Maybe ask around some wood forums and see what experts think. You just might have too much UV to do walnut. From what I understand, UV protectants won't stop the color change, but in this case maybe it would help prevent the extreme color washout you seem to be getting. But I don't know....See MoreHelp with bathroom storage cabinet
Comments (6)How deep will the cabinet be? You could have all drawers on the bottom, then a small countertop surface in the white quartz, then cabinets (a few inches shallower than drawers) above, hutch-style. You could put electrical in one of the hutch cabinets to plug in electric toothbrushes. We also have a hamper in ours, but I'm not sure how much depth you have. Here are some HOUZZ photos: This one is built-in, but this shows what I was saying about having a countertop area. I would put all drawers below instead of the cabinet and no glass. This one has a laundry tilt-out, but if there is room for laundry in the bedrooms, maybe drawers would be more helpful to you in the bathroom: This looks nice and functional with the drawers below; it's across from the vanity and by the window like in your bathroom. I would put a countertop and have the top cabinets a little shallower than the drawers, more hutch-style, if you have the depth for that. If you want an extra mirror, but also want the storage, you could put mirrors doors....See MoreNothing Left to Say
