Help finding a square dining room table NOT counter height, 30'
Comments (5)Probably have to get it built for you. Not much demand for 54" square tables as the project far into the room on the corners and folks can't pass food across the table without coming out of their chair. A seating position is typically 24" minimum, so that means legs far outboard or a center pedestal to seat 8....See MoreArea Rug Under Dining Table - Need or Want?
Comments (44)Personally for me think they look beautiful either way. BUT, and it's a big but, I wouldn't want to have to worry about keeping a rug under a table clean. I may love to vacuum, but I it's just not so fun when dodging table can chairs under a dining table. It's so much easier to sweep a bare floor in this situation. But that's just me....See Moreis a 72 inch round table too big for my dining room
Comments (15)I have a DR that is almost 13' square so mine is close to your size. My DR table (without leaves) is almost exactly 56" square. It looks great when no one is eating at it, but even without putting in a leaf (it will seat 5 a bit crowded, 4 better), it is hard to get around. I have a small sideboard on one wall, a chest on another wall, and no furniture on the 3rd/4th walls and it's still crowded. Serving is a nightmare as I cannot get behind the chairs to go around the table. If I put in a leaf (my leaves are about 24" wide), I can seat 6 comfortably. One Christmas, I had to put in 2 leaves, and the people at the end, well, one had his chair practically in the entrance into the LR, and the other was up against the french doors that lead to outside - it was awful and this was to seat 9 people! I cannot imagine how you can possibly use your table in this room, or any other table and hope to seat 10 people. It's just not big enough. It takes a BIG DR to hold a table that can seat 10 comfortably. My DD has a DR that is 15' x 16 1/2'. Her table is 52" wide and if she uses small chairs, she can seat two at each end and with two leaves in her table (a triple pedestal table), she can seat 4 down each side, thus 12 in total. One time, she seated 14 - it was very cramped - no b&b plates, single wine glass in the table setting....See MoreSetting a square dining room table
Comments (12)Great ideas! And, thanks so much for the pic! We have indoor pets and it's so much easier to keep things clean without a table cloth for every day, but I can always just use it when we have guests. Did that during the holidays. Love the idea to use 4 runners - that would look really nice and serve as place mats, all in one. And, round place mats do help a lot - rectangular ones overlap a bit at the corner place settings. I used round during the holidays. I'll check out Target! I've never seen or heard of luncheon place mats - that's a neat option - will check out that site and also do a Google search. Thanks! Our table is finished - probably is a polyurethaned wood surface. I try to be really careful with it - use trivets, place mats for most meals (it's just DH and I at home now) - I'm just afraid of scratching the surface. I know I'm being more cautious than I need to be, but it's the first set we've bought new and I know it has to last. LOL! How clever to use a bedspread as a table cloth - so creative! This was my holiday table. Just seemed cramped to me. I put the silverware on the plates/napkins to save space. BTW, those are gold charges - they're reflecting the red plates and look red. Fortunately, I was able to set up food buffet style, so most of the serveware didn't have to be on the table. I was just out of ideas and have been bored with the way I've been setting our table - want to do a little something nicer for every day, even though it's just DH and me! I so appreciate your replies! :)...See MoreMiranda Rose
