Just a few Before/Afters of our 1905 Colonial Cottage PICS
Comments (16)Lynxe, that kitchen is long gone. It was in terrible disrepair. The laminate counter was completely separated from the wall, many of the cabinets were separating from the wall. Most of the drawers were broken and not even usable. The linoleum floor was stained. It also had a separate utility room for storage, and a washer and dryer. We decided to grab the space from that to make the kitchen larger. We ended up removing 2 walls, one of which was load bearing and we had to put in a lam beam to keep the house structurally sound. The kitchen is now completely open to the dining room. I will add more pictures of the kitchen when I get a chance. It is not the typical "period/cottage" kitchen that is so prevalent in magazines. Since it is open to the rest of the house I wanted something a little more warm, and a little more french country. I love how it is turning out, it is not yet complete as my DH has done everything with the exception of the counters himself. Sorry about the toilet lid, didn't realize it was such a no-no. If you notice there is also a little pink plastic microphone in the pic, I suspect I know who left the lid up....See MoreOur kitchen before and after
Comments (6)Flowerlady I loved the tour of your kitchen. Looks so fun to cook in. I keep wanting to do the same here. Would much rather have the look you have then all matchie matchie. I certainly have enough cabinets around the house to pull this off. Wonder if I can talk DH into it??? He does not like the cabinets we have now they are not real. Doors and drawer fronts are real wood the rest is not. Your look is so much more interesting. Just off the top of my head I have a Hoosier a jelly cabinet, two china cabinets. An old desk that I used as an island in our last house and it is a kitchen cabinet in this house, mosaic top. OH And I have a top from a kitchen cabinet in the master bath. Sure would make the rest of the house look cleaned out to pull all of these things into the kitchen and remove the cabinets we have now. OK I just sort of jokingly put the idea into his head. He did not run from the room screaming. Going to have to give this some more thought. Again Thanks for the tour of your Scullery. Was a real joy. Chris...See MoreOur Thanksgiving Transformation! Comments (33)Thanks everyone again! I truly am grateful for so many things this year. cheril 27 The knobs and pulls are Top Knobs vmilmeis I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with Swiss Coffee. The trim was originally stained and I primed and painted it. A new coat of paint was put on to match the new cabinets. I bought a can of Linen White and painted a piece of cardboard about the size of a cabinet. I lived with it and looked at the color in various lights. Worth the can of paint. My kitchen is very bright so the Linen White is a good choice for my space. loves2cook4six My pantry area was behind the closet on the right. The closet on the left held extra pantry items, the vacuum, extra table leaves, platters etc. neesie I second guessed so many decisions during the process EXCEPT the company we chose. They were truly professional and on schedule. My husband and I started the whole process in February - researching cabinetry, meeting with different stores/builders in our area. We first met with the custom cabinet company in June- signed the contract in mid July. Installation began in early October - finished second week in November. I'm sorry if the six weeks start to finish was misleading. Installation was six weeks and problem free. debbiesull Grohe K4 faucet; Elkay ELU281610 undermount no reveal stainless sink...See MoreOur New Fence, Garden Courtyard and Backyard with After/Before Photos
Comments (39)yogi_mi5a The flagstone patio was made from flagstone my husband had thrown behind the shed when he replaced a front walkway years ago with pavers. He gave away a bunch of it and we had some left over (probably not the nicest pieces which had been picked thru when he gave it away- but thankfully there was enough to do a flagstone patio and some flagstone stairs for a small hill. I like to reuse whenever I can!...See More- 9 years ago
