I am finally ready to post my "almost" finished kitchen. Still need to paint and find new table and light. Search is on!

I'd like to say thank you to everyone on this forum. I discovered it well into my remodel; however, I learned a great deal from everyone and based many final decisions on information I learned here. A special thank you to Paigeysmom for her help and hand holding with my granite selection.

What a difference! One item of note... Those ninebarks will need a bit more space. You may need to extend the bed out another 4 to 5 feet to allow them to fill in. They will be easier to relocate sooner than later. Great color choice for that location!

Tina, I bet you all can get the tile a lot cheaper than we can! The company is wonderful, they sent me a lot of free samples so I could choose my colors. We also have it in the entry way. We just love it! Marrilyn, I think we added about 650 sq. feet, which is the new room only. After being cramped in that tiny LR, we wanted SPACE, even though it's just my dh and myself now. lol. Here's the before picture I took at the end of last summer when I knew it would be "demolished." The wonderful memories of two little boys frolicking in the front yard makes me cry. :( From where I'm standing taking the picture, between me and the old house is the new room. Before: After, another picture below: Left side of porch, we added some rock to it that we used on our FP. Right side, still no porch furniture. :( Here's a picture taken a couple of months ago at the beginning of my "cottage garden" which is an interesting experiment. lol.

I have considered using a rug, but with the holidays quickly approaching, I will wait until January to think about it. I'm not sure how to coordinate with the rug in the LR since the whole area is an L-shaped LR/DR. I also like the ease of clean-up and the ease of moving the chairs with the felt pads with the bare wood floor.

Great transformation! How did you paint your cabs? I think I think I have the same cabinets. Were yours solid wood or do they have some type of laminate/veneer on them? I'm in the process of getting new countertops/backsplash and repainting but I'm not sure how I'm going to like the cabinets after I'm done. I think mine have some type of veneer on them and I'm afraid they'll chip. Great job!!!

Beautiful transformation! And 6 weeks???!!! Impressive!

I really love the whole treatment around the stove - the backsplash, the shelf above. Very, very nice :)

I also love your granite.

Those are beautiful cabinets! The whole renovation is gorgeous! You had much to be thankful for on Thanksgiving :)

As a side note, I'm surprised the fire code (or building code) allowed you to put those cabinet boxes so close to the gas cooktop without some type of heat shield between them and the open flame.

Good gravy it's gorgeous. What a huge change from builder blah (1980's style...we had it too LOL) to WOW!! And since I have a special place in my heart for any chicken lover, you get an extra BAAWWWKKKK of approval!!!!

How high is your ceiling? Your 'before' kitchen has many similarities to mine. Your 'after' pictures give me hope!

That's gorgeous! I love everything about it. Did you paint the cabinets yourself or did they come painted? I just noticed they match your trim work perfectly and I was wondering what color you used. Do you know what color your going to paint the walls yet? Please post another photo when you get that done.

Thank you everyone for your compliments. After I posted the pictures I had a major bout of insecurity. Is my kitchen already dated with the stainless and granite? Shh, I won't tell my DH!
The ceilings are 9'.
The cabinets are very creamy. Came painted. BM Linen White.
Cabinets are up to code.
Not sure what color I am going to paint. The family room is open to the kitchen (we removed a wall) and we're planning to completely redecorate it and reface the fireplace. The color will be determined by these choices. 2009 project!

WOW! 6 weeks for a transformation like that! You must be doing something very right in life. Amazing. Love everything about it. Your cabinets are gorgeous and the Linen White is deliciously creamy! Your granite is gorgeous too. And I love how you built your fridge and ovens into the space where the closets use to be. May you enjoy many more Thanksgivings in your beautiful kitchen. You did a great job.

Wow that is gorgeous! I love the mantle area over the stove, what a cozy and warm idea! The whole room says not too much, not too little! I bet you'll have a great time cooking in there during the holidays! Cheers!

Very, very nice! My goodness, that old wallpaper was REALLY something, wasn't it? It just about knocks your eyeballs out.

It's gorgeous. I'm so happy I found this forum today. I need everyones help.....I'm doing a white kitchen as well. The cabinets will be installed first and than painted, (not my favorite situation, but cost was a big issue). I'm grappling with the color of whites. I don't want a start white kitchen. How is the BM Linen compared to the familiar Swiss Coffee we have all used over the years on trim, etc. Thanks so much for your help.

Lisa, that is ever-so-pretty! Surely you're pulling our legs about it being six weeks from start to finish? Maybe you're incredibly skilled at planning and scheduling competent workers! In any case, I just love your cooktop area and how you built in your refrigerator. Your granite and sink are lovely too. So you had a wonderful holiday? I see Santa peeking out of the adjoining room for the next one....

vmilmeis I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with Swiss Coffee. The trim was originally stained and I primed and painted it.
A new coat of paint was put on to match the new cabinets. I bought a can of Linen White and painted a piece of cardboard about the size of a cabinet. I lived with it and looked at the color in various lights. Worth the can of paint. My kitchen is very bright so the Linen White is a good choice for my space.

loves2cook4six My pantry area was behind the closet on the right. The closet on the left held extra pantry items, the
vacuum, extra table leaves, platters etc.

neesie I second guessed so many decisions during the process EXCEPT the company we chose. They were truly professional and on schedule. My husband and I started the whole process in February - researching cabinetry, meeting with different stores/builders in our area. We first met with the custom cabinet company in June- signed the contract in mid July. Installation began in early October - finished second week in November. I'm sorry if the six weeks start to finish was misleading. Installation was six weeks and problem free.
