My DR chairs are done! Before & after pictures of the room

After buying a DR table from CL this past summer, finding chairs at a consignment shop, selling the old Queen Anne DR furniture on CL, and giving the chairs a little bit of a makeover, the DR is finally ready for my husband's birthday celebration next weekend and the upcoming holidays! Many of you have followed along and offered wonderful advice when I asked for help. Thank you so much! Here are some before and afters of the project.

You will see that the chair is not painted black, as I was considering doing. I have not completely ruled out that option. At the rate everything was moving along, or should I say NOT moving along, I simply did not have time to paint them and have them ready in time for the holidays.

Trailrunner, your home is just so beautiful and it seems to be full of who you are as a person. I don't know your story but I too have one of my own. The sentence that began "All any of us can do" really spoke to me today and I don't even know what words I can say to thank you for them. I don't mean for this to be an OT not by any means, but I try to surround myself with things that are attractive to me. The beauty might be in the character of your unupholstered chair or the unknown history of memazz's bowling pins or a painting that tells a story to me. My family doesn't understand the importance decorating has in my life, and luckily doesn't really have any influence on what I do - I couldn't imagine that battle. For me, it is the desire to surround myself with things that I find beautiful and items that evoke happy memories that dictates what I do. My rooms would not be in any magazine and pale in comparison to rooms I have seen in this blog (like your dining room) but adding something or altering a room bringing it closer to being "me" is what I strive for. Sitting in a chair in my LR, with my coffee, watching the cat as she sleeps next to "my" chair - no one else likes the color but I think it is "gorgeous" - with the colors of the vase (which I picked out just knowing that it would cast the most magnificent shadow) in the window beginning to creep upon her fur is more beautiful than any diamond I could own. So again, without meaning for this to be OT - I tend to look at people's rooms as more than what is "correct" as to how much of their personality is there. So many of your pieces from the stories you have told seem to tell some of the stories of your life. Do you like I, place what may be to most people, a greater desire to surround yourself with things that elicit positive thoughts. I find that not many people understand that it is more than just accumulating or matching "things". How much does ingesting your personality matter when you are designing a room?

Zecchini, I love your kitchen renovation so much from the color of the cabinets, to the hardware, to those big beautiful floor tiles on the diagonal, to that gorgeous backsplash, to those counters are stunning and that little doggie really enhances the pictures. The glossy ceiling really does add something, doesn't it? This is the kind of remodel I really enjoy - small budget, big bang for the result! I also like how you managed to make white and gray not look so cold as so many - I think that greige color you chose is really working for the space. And, of course, I am an utter sucker for the tall thin cabinet squeezing out storage in a small kitchen. How is that working out for you?

I'm sincerely so very happy for you and your family! its beautiful! I love all of it and imagine the space is serving your family very well now. What a fun place to live! i giggle at the thought of you touring folks around your new house and showing them the powder room as where your kitchen used to be--it wasn't much bigger! Most people who post a request for layout help don't expect to get a comment that recommends rearranging their whole main floor. I'm so glad you considered it. And you did it! The sight of your pictures made my heart flutter a bit. Your home is lovely and I had so much fun contributing to part of it and seeing the "afters." Thank you, DC!

What a wonderful transformation. The new table and chairs look beautiful and fit the space perfectly. Love the prints too!

Alas, its too bad queen anne feels so dated now, as there is so much of it. I think what you did was subtle but made a huge difference. Really nice. The botanicals are perfect. And its funny how a small thing like moving the hutch looks so much better.

Thanks everyone! I am much happier with the new furniture and the new arrangement. I had been looking off and on on CL and lucked out when I found that table. It's 6' long and expands to 8' and 10' with leaves. We may even fit everyone at the same table this Thanksgiving! I can't believe we lived with the china cabinet and table and chairs cramped into that one area. We will be so much more comfortable with a bigger group of guests now that the china cabinet is on the larger wall (probably where it should have been all along!).

Love the new table! IMO, the chairs look fine, but painting them black will give the furniture more of a personalize look.

Have you thought of adding a rug under the table? I love the look and feel of wood, but a rug helps break up the floor space a bit as well as adding more color/pattern. Just a thought. ;o)

That is such a difference, it looks great!

Queen Anne style is classic, but feels more formal than most people want currently. Your new dining room looks refreshed and ready to take on the next 10-20 years of great meals.

We had the Queen Anne table and chairs for over 25 years and it went to some of the nicest people we've met since we started buying and selling on CL. They even sent us a picture in an email of the furniture in their home. It looks great there.

I have considered using a rug, but with the holidays quickly approaching, I will wait until January to think about it. I'm not sure how to coordinate with the rug in the LR since the whole area is an L-shaped LR/DR. I also like the ease of clean-up and the ease of moving the chairs with the felt pads with the bare wood floor.

The new table really helps make the room. The botanicals are awesome. The chairs turned out great. I agree on leaving them and not painting them since they look to be in good condition. Ready just in time to enjoy the holidays!

A rug would look nice, but it totally looks fine as is.

The china cabinet belonged to my grandmother. It's not real old. She purchased it in the early 60's when she moved to a smaller home. So, I guess it's just older, but it has a lot of sentimental value to me.
