Method Granite Cleaner--Do you use it?
Comments (12)I've used Method Daily Granite for years and love it. In our previous home I used it exclusively with microfiber towels (a few were bright orange!). I've used it in our current home with paper towels a lot since I no longer have to buff the leathered surface after I wipe. I also use microfiber on the island. No residue at all. Something strange is going on Bee! I'd start fresh with only white cloths or paper towels and clean everything off with a mixture of dish soap and water. Then rinse and dry. Then use the daily granite. Are you by chance drying your microfiber towels with dryer sheets?...See MoreAre honed granite slabs routinely re-honed by fabricators?
Comments (21)I am a fabricator. We sometimes have customer selected slabs rehoned when, upon inspection at our shop, we notice scratches or inconsistent finish. Our 1st step is to accompany the customer to select their slabs. Then, most of the time, if there are objectionable aspects to the customers stone we can point it out then. (I don't know why most fabricators don't help with the slab selection when it prevents SO MANY of the typical problems.) If a slab has to be refinished there are two typical avenues; one is to have it refinished at a supplier with a polishing line. 2nd is for the fabricator to use a radial arm router and a skilled operator. (Most fabricators do not have this capability.) Either route can produce a nice finish but neither can be counted on to provide an exact match to the original finish. A third, relatively recent option due to newly available tooling, is to hone the slab with a CNC. We haven't done this yet so I can't comment on the quality of the finish. When we refinish a slab we require the customer to sign off that whatever the finish looks like will be acceptable....See Morehoned granite vs. quartz. Any opinions?
Comments (21)Hi Eugenie- I'm guessing you're in FFC since you were at Ring's End and based on your post about your son's car. ;) I was totally sent on absolute black honed until I started reading about it here. (actually I shouldn't say totally set I've been all over the place...marble, granite, soapstone). Anyway, I finally put a deposit down on leathered jet mist granite. I LOVE it! It's not a solid black like AB.I was going to do jet mist honed until I felt the leathered slabs...I don't know the best way to describe it, but they feel almost soft. Anyway, I don't know how they're going to do w/dust and fingerprints b/c I haven't had it installed yet, but I'm pretty sure every post I've read here from someone who has it loves it. Everest Marble in Norwalk has some great slabs of Jet Mist right now. I don't think there were any more leathered ones, but I know they have a lot of honed (I was there last Saturday). If you're looking for a fabricator so far I've been really happy with La Pietra in Brookfield (ask for Fabiana). I'll try to post a picture of my slabs. http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/dd251/avaowensmom/Kitchen%20redo/?action=view&current=photo-18.jpg" target="_blank"> Here is a link that might be useful:...See MoreSealing and cleaning honed marble
Comments (19)Hi @quiltgirl1 - I know it’s been a while since you posted. I couldn’t message you directly, so I thought I’d post a comment here in the hopes you’ll see it! We are about to make a decision on countertops, and I’m a huge Silestone fan. I had Alpina White (polished) for years, and just installed polished Et Serena in our master bath and powder room. I have been looking at Dekton lately (“Bromo”) thinking that I might try that in the kitchen this time, mainly for the zero-porosity factor (essentially heat-proof, fade-proof, etc.). However, I also love the Charcoal Soapstone (suede) like you have and was wondering if you are still having good luck with it. We installed the Alpina White over 20 years ago, and just demo-ed it a few weeks ago. I was advised by the salesman at the time of install that it was “heat-proof and scratch-proof”...so I have been taking piping hot dishes out of the oven/micro and setting them directly on the counters all these years! I also cut on them frequently. They looked as good when we ripped them out as when they were installed - so I guess I was incredibly lucky (ignorance is bliss)! Anyway, that was the main reason for switching to Dekton - so I could still set hot dishes directly on it without any worries. And it has the added benefit of no possibility of staining...at all. But the suede Charcoal Soapstone is so pretty! Have you had any problems, or are you still in love ;)? It’s mainly the suede finish that worries me. Sorry to everyone that this is so long; but hopefully @quiltgirl1 is still around, or possibly someone else that has helpful info. Thanks so much!...See Morewitchy1
