Sorry for not posting more pics, but they are a pain to post in this site given size restrictions for photos. Anyhow, I'm pretty certain it's this moth doing the damage. My garden is infested with them. At night, when I just rattle the branches of any plant I see a bunch of them fly out from underneath the plant. Little blood suckers. I talked to some folks at the garden center nearby and the artichoke plume moth is an opportunistic feeder and certainly does not limit itself to just artichoke. It can eat almost anything and can wipe out a garden. I've been spraying BT everywhere like crazy and this is killing all the caterpillars and larvae but not the adult plume moth itself. They just keep laying their eggs and it'll be a never ending cycle of me spraying BT unless I can figure out a way to get rid of the adult moth itself. I've sprayed spinosad and organic soap and maybe this kills the ones I manage to spray directly, but every night it seems like more and more of these moths are present. Any suggestions on how to kill, deter or get rid of the adult moths from my garden. I heard wasps are natural enemies, but I don't want to grow a wasp nest in my garden. Any suggestions?

It's a swarming flying ant. They are hatching out right now this time of year. I have them too. Main nest usually outside, but they set up satellite nests in walls, etc. They are attracted to lights and will often swarm around windows and lamps. They can scare you at first thinking they are termites. Termites don't have waists. Rake back leaves and other debris from around house, Seal all holes on the outside of house and put down bug granules and borax around the perimeter your house especially where you find any trails. Mulching around the foundation of your home, tho while commonly done can make pest problems worse.

The killed or molted exoskeletal remains are too mangled for me to identify. There is such a thing as a spiny flower mantis.

Thanks all! Folks on another forum are telling me it's a leaf footed bug nymph. Leaf footed bug "It’s hard to tell the difference between the two because they’re both so small, orange and similar. One good way to tell is if you see a bunch of them clustered together then they’re leaffooted bugs. So when I saw this little solo nymph below I couldn’t tell if it was a leaffooted or assassin bug. Once I took the picture with the super macro setting I could clearly see it’s proboscis sucking the life juice from our sunflower…. leaffooted bug. Kill kill kill. If your eyes are good enough to see the tiny details, the assassin bug nymphs might have white dots on their backs instead of the black spikes like the leaffooted bug ..."
