Mixing ORB and chrome

I am mixing finishes in my new construction home: ORB interior door hardware and some light fixtures and chrome cabinet hardware and plumbing fixtures. I am selecting a frosted glass pantry door for the kitchen and realized all the other finishes in the kitchen will be chrome (cabinet hardware, plumbing and lights). This got me thinking - should I do chrome hardware on the pantry door only? Appreciate any advice!

Hi Alley. I am nearing the end of new construction and we mixed hardware throughout. Mostly due to repurposing glass doorknobs and antique light fixtures. I tried to be consistent by sticking to a few "rules" and one rule was to keep the door hardware (aged brass) consistent and to keep the window hardware consistent (brushed nickel - new windows). If this is the only door you can see from your kitchen, then I would go with a low profile chrome. However, if there are other doors in the view of this door, then I would keep the pantry door consistent with the rest of the house. I'll be interested to see what others say, but this is what I would do in my current stage of decision making brain damage. ; )

Mixed seems to be the new 'thing', but do what you like. As Honu3421 says above, I think that look is like the 'assembled over time' that is preferred by mos, as in NO matchy, matchy bedroom sets n curtains n bedspread etc.t. I do think you should not have just one odd one though.

Conn123, thanks for the link. This is actually the one I am considering: I will have a cut glass/crystal chandelier in the room too. i was excited to see that this one is on sale too on Macys. They do accept returns at the store--which is GREAT! I do wonder, though, if that is worth the $25 in shipping! I can get free shipping elsewhere. And, there is $47 of taxes on Macy's. I don't know that other internet sites charge tax (I think you are supposed to pay it yourself on your income tax forms, though, right?). Anyway, how do people feel about this sconce?

Here is one link with pics; don't know if you've seen it. The first pics have chrome and orb, the last 2 are nickel and orb. Mine is the last one and the fixtures are Moen ShowHouse brushed nickel. I also have Hansgrohe and Grohe brushed nickel (and some off brand tub spout in the shower) and once installed I can't see a whit of difference between them. I chose just the opposite--chrome faucets for both sinks and then used an ORB light fixture with ORB cabinet pulls. I think mine looks good. I cannot get in the right position to take a good picture, but I would not worry about mixing metals. Red

You bet! We used brushed nickel for the knobs, pulls and faucets in the kitchen. That matched the hardware on the CornuFe range. In the laundry, we installed a historically-correct polished chrome wall mount faucet (with BN knobs and pulls, mind you). Light fixture bases are antique black; the ones in the laundry are black porcelain. Throughout are new ORB doorknobs and window hardware. It all looks good together. Choosing things that are too matchy-matchy can become an issue in itself. Have no fear, opposites really do attract.
