Today is a Good Gardening Day

I've recently ordered six rose bushes on-line. Today is finally warm (65 predicted ) and sunny and dry. I'm in the North East (Long Island NY, specifically) and our forecast is warmish nights for the next week. We had a terrible cold snowy icy winter, and I fell and sprained my knee on the ice in February. (My knee is feeling good, I've been going to Physical Therapy) So I'm itching to get outside with my garden tools and go to work. I'm gonna clean my flower beds, pull back the leaves and get them ready for when the roses are delivered. Anyone else having nice weather?

We had heavy rain and thunderstorms predicted for today, yesterday was like that, so they decided to reschedule our garden club sale to next Saturday and guess what, it's not raining the sun is shining!

My niece's daughter is getting married today outdoors in Louisiana so I am hoping it doesn't rain there either.

I have been working in my atrium and have it looking very good I need to add more flowers for color. The flower beds need work and I have lots to get planted. My knock out roses are blooming like crazy as well as my azaleas. Lots of colors around the neighborhood with the azaleas blooming now. I have a new rose bush to plant too.

Well, it is a beautiful spring day. Were it not for all the rain of the last 4 days resulting in boggy areas throughout my 3/4 acre, I would be out there fussing. Envious of your being able to get out to fuss, but also happy that your knee is well enough so you can enjoy your time fussing

I'm hoping to get there on the day of the MA swap. I've only been once, and have to agree with Mindy that the owner is really great. And, not only does he stock plants that are hard to find, interesting and varied, the plants are incredibly well cared for. You don't come home with something already thinking what you'd need to do to get it to look good - it's been done, and done right. I wish I lived closer.

Our grocery store parking lot is a nightmare. People walking behind vehicles constantly and they don't realize that many do not see them or they are in their blind spots. I watch very carefully the back up lights plus people in the driver seat. I have told my dad many times to stop as they just back up and won't wait their turns or the people behind won't stay back, they stop right there and no room to back up and turn. We had one crazy guy in his scooter roaring right behind the vehicles in the parking lot and went all the way through. Scary that is as you can't see him at all. I am surprised when I mentioned it to customer service that he is still alive. She was too. People aren't looking if you noticed, many of them. They have too much on their minds and off they go to next place and they drive too fast. Its scary and frightening in parking lots. You were lucky to have that woman go up and scream stop and give driver heck. Scary that is!

Sitting here happily sore from the gardening I did today. I've been on spring break and almost every day it rained. But today was gorgeous and I spent several hours outside weeding, breaking down the dead plant material and raking leaves out from betweens. The endless summer hydrangea up along the front of my house are putting out new green growth. Last fall I planted a vanilla strawberry and a little lime. Don't see growth on them yet. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they both made it. They were planted kind of on the late side of fall.

I need to work outside, in my back yard.... old fence needs to come out, which means, bushes need to be pruned way back to get at the fence panels... and I have only till Thursday to get it done. Thursday is BIG trash pickup. However, I did a bike, walk, bike thing, and came home in the rain... and done NOTHING since, besides veg at this puter.... I hope to have the energy to get a bit further in the yard crap tomorrow.

I can only dream for a few more weeks. I don't do too much until the EID turns the water into the ditch system. May 10, so trying to bide my time. :-(

I put in a six pack of tomato starts two weeks ago. Prior to that I replanted my color bowls on the patio. We have had a warm winter, and now I wonder whether I should even plant the front walkway. It is looking sparse from the blistering heat last September, but with water restrictions probably coming soon, it could be a waste of time and effort. At least we will have some garden tomatoes to enjoy and share this year.

It turned out I didn't get a lot of gardening done. I raked a little, got winded quickly and came inside. My dog did enjoy being outside with me. Guess I've gotten soft over the winter.
