Amish Furniture Recommendations
Comments (7)Have you visited any Amish shops yourselves? I have learned from experience that a reputable seller is as important as the builder because they will only work with the better craftsmen and will stand by what they sell. Below is the link for the builder with whom am dealing and I have seen his furniture in person. www.amishfurnitureshoppe.net. I can vouch for the quality of his furniture. He had dining tables and chairs, occasional tables and a bed on the floor at the fair and it had extra supports for the frame which you don't see a lot. I believe they will ship. His prices are really good but I don't know what the shipping costs would be. He is in PA. Also, another dealer I have been speaking to is www.AmishWBF.com. The man's name is Galen and is very knowledgeable and has been very helpful. His prices are great and his shipping is really reasonable. I believe he will be honest with you about the best builders for the set you want. I am really impressed with him. I hope this helps. Regards,...See MoreDo you recommend Canadel furniture
Comments (71)Update to my comment last year. We loved our Canadel table, chairs and counter stools that we had for 20+ years and when we downsized last year, I was hesitant to buy any more Canadel products after reading the reviews. However, we decided to buy a small Canadel table for our new kitchen to match the counter stools (from 20+ years ago) that we took with us to our new place. So glad we did! The table is wonderful. Even better, we were able to get the same wood and black finishes to match our old counter stools. Most companies do not maintain the same colors and woods over the years, but Canadel does. We've had the table now for about 7 months and it is holding up well with no scratches (we use placemats). One of the swivels on our 20+ year old counter stools finally stopped working properly. The furniture store where we bought the new table contacted Canadel for us, who provided us with the name of the manufacturer of the metal swivel piece. We we were able to order a replacement swivel directly from that manufacturer, put it on the stool and it's now like new. Our experience with Canadel has been good and we are very pleased with their furniture....See Morebuying furniture from North Carolina that costs less than retail?
Comments (11)The furniture industry refers to it as the "North Carolina problem". Local dealers feel that NC offers buyers an unfair advantage over local dealers. Large NC dealers who cater to out-of-state buyers deal in such volumes that they can typically offer large discounts. Several years ago, bending to pressures from their local dealer network, many furniture companies implemented a Minimum Retail Price (MRP) strategy which forces all dealers to sell furniture for a minimum price. Fortunately, not all mfg. have this policy and great discounts are available. Two retailers are mentioned frequently here. Boyles is located in the Hickory Furniture Mart in Hickory, NC. Boyles sells a lot of furniture and owns and operates their own fleet of delivery trucks as opposed to contracting out to delivery companies. Delivery is a recurring problem with members on this site and Boyles has, for the most part, negated such problems. I say most part because there is much involved in mfg., delivering and setting up furniture and things can go wrong. I have bought furniture from Boyles several times and they have been excellent. A number of members here recommend lexfurniture.com which is based in Lexington, Ky. They are aggressive with their discounts. I have never bought furniture from them but would based on feedback in this forum. There are a few to avoid in NC and I can mention one. Southern Designs in the Hickory Furniture Mart. We had problems from the beginning and their customer service was non-existent. Knowing which companies to avoid is as important as which ones to consider and that is true whether you are speaking of local or NC dealers....See MoreWhat do you know about Amish cabinetry?
Comments (25)I took a tour of this place (the showroom and the factory) today with the KD I will probably be working with for the kitchen in my new house. They do custom work for places throughout the US. Their work is impressive. Lots of QS oak in their showroom and rift sawn. You would have to find retailer. I'm sure there is one in Chicago. They were working on a whole house of cabinets for a house in Reston, Ma. They build them and they have non Amish drivers that deliver. My KD said they are not cheap...but are reasonable. They had a display that rivaled the Wood-mode Vintage cabinets in my house. http://www.dhhinfo.com...See MoreAnne
