Considering a move to North Carolina. Please Help!
Comments (26)Property taxes can be high here in NC too. I think Gaston county has a lot of crime. Charlotte is wonderful, that's where we go to do decent shopping/dining. Charlotte is definitely where it's at as far as I am concerned. Wilmington is nice but too close to coast, hurricanes. Personally I like Asheville a lot. Lots of art and culture there including hippies. I don't have a clue about the schools in any of the areas I mentioned. I live in Hickory, NC, small city with the traffic of a large city, yuk. Winston Salem is also nice. Greensboro is near and High Point although I don't know what High Point has to offer. Carla...See MoreNorth Caroline furniture/trip
Comments (8)One of the biggest advantages of going to especially FurnitureLand South is the size. They have just about every brand you can think of! We have made two trips there and you can easily spend a whole day going through the store. They also have a great little sandwich shop/restaurant in the store. 10 years ago we purchased a higher end master BR set and dining room set from them at a significant savings 50% over local!.. no tax, no shipping.. About 3 years ago when we were finishing building our current home we made 2 trips down.. 1 to look the 2nd to buy.. we had plans to purchase 7 rooms of furniture. (LR/DR/FR/MBR/KIT/DEN + Guest BR) We did not have a good expierience at FLS.. we got the rudest/least helpful salesperson and I didn't think their prices were that great. So we ended up looking at FLS all day.. then buying elsewhere. (many elsewheres!) It might have just been bad timing.. but my husband and I were just so annyoyed with this salesperson we moved on. Too bad about Boyles.. we purchased at Marge Carson DR there at a great price! We also ordered quite a bit of furniture from Elite in South Carolina. They had the best prices on many of the brands we were looking at. We purchased a BR set from Beechers(I think) in Indiana. We put together a list of the items we wanted then I just started shopping for price, but of couse would check out the business prior to purchasing. In some cases I saved 10-20% over FLS, which is significantly discounted from retail. Had no problems with any ordering except a 1 item was significantly delayed due to mfg. backorder. The fly drive option probably won't work because most items need to be ordered and will come in at different times. If I were doing it again(which hopefully we won't!) I would go back to NC, but do your homework before and after. If you do go, there is a nice little Inn we stayed at in High Point.. J.A Adams.. very nice place with a wonderful restaurant....See MorePlease help me with trip to North Carolina for Furniture
Comments (4)I saved a large amount of money on a recent trip, shopped in Hickory and High Point. If I had to choose one place it would be Hickory. We purchased from many spots, The Hickory Furniture Mart and Catawaba Furniture Mall were the 2 largest. If you go to the chamber of commerce you can get a map that shows all the places and "30 miles of furniture" You should have a plan of where you will go and exactly what you are going to buy - I did a lot of research before going and had the whole trip mapped out - we stayed 5 days. You can buy a good book - "The Furniture factory outlet guide" (I'm not affilated) The book tells you where to shop and which stores to stay away from, this was my 2nd trip to NC for furniture and my 2nd time buying the book. You may want to call some places ahead and get prices over the phone to compare your local prices - just to verify it is worth the trip to "you". I think it is worth going just to see all the different furniture - and not have to pick something out of a catalog and order sight unseen! I have also heard some people think they didn't save that much - mostly (imo) because they were looking at lower end (not bad..just not the really high end stuff) furniture....See MoreNorth Carolina Furniture Stores near Asheville
Comments (1)The best thing to do if you want to save time is to spend a couple nights looking on the internet for some ideas. Most times you can get a pretty good feel for the vendor by doing some looking online at styles and prices. Obviously the cheaper the goods the lower the quality as long as you are looking at the average price (try to find stores that breakdown the cost of the goods from the delivery cost, this will give you the best idea of what something is worth). You can spend a lot of time running around to stores only to find nothing at all. If you do some searching online and then go the stores to see the vendorsâ goods first hand you will save yourself a ton of time. We have a store north of Greensboro that carries a lot of traditional styles on our showroom floor, since this area calls for that style; however we also ship many modern looks across the country. So if you came in our store and did not know that we had the modern style you may walk away and overpay some where else. The biggest thing that I can tell you is stay away from franchise stores or chain stores. You may think that you are getting a good deal only to later find that you could have saved quite a bit by going with a family run company. We do not have the big markups, advertising, and buildings to pay for and can be very competitive even without buying in bulk. If you need any suggestions on vendors to look at just let me know and I can get you pointed in the right direction. Just be very cautious with this style; there is a lot of really cheap knock offs in the modern style....See Moretetrazzini
