HOW MANY CANDLES CAN A PERSON MAKE?

Hi! I'm working on a business plan to start my own candle making business. I know time will depend on equipment capacity, candle sizes, whether dye and/or additive is being used, etc. However, I am just looking for some reference as to how many candles I will be able to make PER DAY/MONTH if I handle all the production MYSELF.

So, regardless of candle size, and your equipment's capacity, how long does it take you to make "ONE BATCH" of candles, if you do everything yourself?

(it will help if you include your candle sizes and equipment you use in your response)

There is no way to answer that without knowing whether you are making container candles or freestanding ones, as well as the type of wax and melting mechanism (e.g. stove top, microwave, etc.)
Working with a friend, the most we have done was to make about 100 soy container candles in a day. These were 16 ounce jar candles and we were melting wax in the microwave. This time was for wicking, melting, scenting, coloring and pouring. It does not factor in labeling.

Do you make candles now? If I can make "x" amount of candles in a day of production, it is because I have my set up designed for that production. I am comfortable with my system and it flows for me, but it's because I have been doing it for 5 years. It also took me 18 months of pouring and testing 4-5 days a week to perfect my wax/scent/wick system in the one jar that I chose to test with about 40 scents coming out tested and a salable item.

Your production is limited by how much wax you can get melted, then scented and poured. The jars need a place to sit undisturbed for 8-12 hours, so your space is important too. Your question might be something that I can answer because I know my space, give me a jacketed 100 pound wax melter and triple my space and I can really up my production.

You need to look at your system and study your space and production abilities.

The reason most people do not like okra is they think of it being slimy, In stews this does not happen. For those who do not like it being slimy they can cook it on medium to medium low until it stops foaming. I raised a large crop when I had the room and never had a problem of it going to waste. My wife took a 10 gallon pot to a Church dinner. They asked what it was and when she told them they said they did not like okra, but we brought an empty pot home. Cooking is an art that takes love and adventure for the soul. I also love Cactus pads in stew with onions and tomatoes. They also have to be cooked slowly until they stop foaming. All foods can be enjoyed if prepared by someone who knows how to fix that dish.

I love black eyed peas too, but I've only ever had them reconstituted from the dry, bagged, grocery store ones. I will say, though, that pretty much anything that you simmer with smoked pork products, and especially bacon, is going to taste pretty spectacular. ;) I'm going to start another couple tubs of cowpeas this weekend, and maybe crowd them a little bit more, since I've read some differing things on spacing, and see which ones produce more. Since it's more or less just an experiment, I won't be too terribly heartbroken if I don't find myself drowning in a sea of peas.

Maybe you could use those bags I have seen on tv where you suck the air out with a vacuum and reduces the size to fit under a bed??? I have 3 dogs and when it is really raining, I have one (beach towel size) on the floor and at least 2 or 3 during the day, then at the middle of the day when those are soaked and the house stinks, I put them into the washer and get out another 2 or three. Very labor intensive but with 3 wet dogs the smell can get a little overwhelming. Also, donating them is a great idea if you are sure you won't use them in the future.

Well, I think I have had a couple of those cheese, crackers and wine parties. :) I've socked them away just in case. Heaven forbid I need wine and can't get it open. Or I get another bartending job...that could pay for some stuff around here....hmmm.....

Yes, it really depend on the type of candle you are making and equipment capacity, candle sizes,etc. You can make lots of candle depend on your capacity..
