I grow silene because there are so many different ones and I keep trying. My recent find is absolutely stunning- Silene Purple Prince from PWS. It is most gorgeous purple foliage in the spring and stunning magenda flowers all, repeat- all summer, it takes a part shade well. Violas are just like pansies- am not sure what difference is I grow them every year for spring show, this year they bloomed all through summer since it was pretty cool. Carol, if you would be interested in silene seeds I have some. Am totally outdated on my seed page and have not been trading at all.

1. What's growing nearby ; ) 2. Thunbergia Erecta 3. Thought it might be COG myself but the throat markings are wrong, i think. I'll say Allamanda Cathartica, probably 'Henderson'. Really more a vine than a shrub but can be pruned into a shrubby mound. 4. Allamanda Shotti-Smaller flowers, shrubbier habit. 5. Agree with John 6. Jatropha i think, euphorbiaceae family 7. Has this flowered? Do you have a picture? 8. Is it fragrant? Looks a little little like H. Arnottianus but the colors seem too vibrant and the leaves don't look right. Where'd you get it? If it came from a big box store in a 6" pot you might want to search the Monrovia or Proven Winners website for an id. 9. & 10. i don't know ixora myself but i'd be suprised if they can be idenified by flower color alone. Maybe someone else can help you out if you know what size the bushes grow to? 11.& 12. Psittacorum Heliconias-sometimes called Parrot Heliconia. The orange one is the common one. Lots of selected color forms, the yellow one could be 'Sassy' or 'Princess Di'. Horribly invasive. 13. Looks like a Stricta, maybe Dwarf Jamaican? Should have a dark red midrib if so. Not too aggressive, at least not in my garden where it gets to less than 2 feet tall and blooms pretty much year round. i've seen it get to 4' tall in some other locations.

I strongly believe in knowing the names of all my hostas. Among other things, I record the grower/hybridizer, the year it was first introduced, and where and when I acquired it. I will not buy from any of the various home improvement stores, where labels often get switched around. That being said, every spring I end up with a dozen or so plants without labels. Obviously, the names of the NOIDS most be among the names of the hostas I acquired, and can easily be found. Most of these orphans result from dividing known hostas, when I forget to label the new divisions. Then there are those hostas, which are either sports, OP seedlings etc. and I record them just as well. If you feel it is to early to name them, identify them at least with some letters or numbers. By fall it is time to take pictures of all my hosta beds. I make B/W printouts and walk outside with the stack of paper in my hand and enter each name directly on the print out, or you might use 1 inch dia. Avery adhesive labels to white on. Use color prints if you don't mind the expense. If you are trying to identify plants from a friend, or those that came with house, try to estimate how many years they were with the last owner. That will reduce the number of possibilities drastically.

Great pictures Dave! The palms look so happy in there new homes. How old is the Lantania in pic 1? I have 1 that I bought from the FIT sale in Melbourne from CFPACS. I do not know the age, but it is just about ready to bump up to a 3 gallon pot. And what is pic 3?
