Mango trees in SoCal?
Comments (100)It looks like it rarely goes below 32f here, but will be prepared in case. More so than a freeze is my concern for nights under 40f, as those seem potentially more frequent than I'm used to. For anyone else that comes across this, it looks like Im in Zone 10A, with 9B close by. I'm not sure what the root stock is on this tree, but it looks like it produced flowers last season, and the trunk is quite thick. From doing a little internet research, it looks like Valencia Pride are a little bit more cold hardy then a Glenn or some other similar varieties. Will keep this thread posted on the progress of this tree....See MoreWeak Young Keitt Mango Tree
Comments (21)Nancy Would you like to trade your excess heat with our cool weather? :-) No flush on my mango trees since October, although they have sprouted several weeks ago :-( Surprisingly, the Surinam Cherry is blooming again while still bearing fruits. These are very sweet but they don't get that cherry-dark color as in summer. There are also partially open flower buds on the peach tree and I found this morning a flower on one of the Passiflora Decaisneana vine, which is unusual for this time of the year. Comments (11)I really can't think of anything else that I want right now. I'm sure I'll think of something eventually, but right now I am out of ideas. I guess it is a good thing but it's a little boring. If anyone has any suggestions on something interesting that I'm missing please help me out. Right now I have mangoes, Lychee's, Sugar apple, Jakfruit, white sapote, avocado, a bunch of citrus, a Ruby supreme guava that I am getting rid of at some point, Barbados cherry, Starfruit, Jaboticaba, Grumichama cherry, Rambutan, Mangosteens, dragon fruit, and Abiu....See MoreDifference between Ataulfo and Manila mangoes?
Comments (34)No. so called Philippine Mango or whatever are the ataulfo. The 'Ataúlfo' mango, also called young, baby, yellow, honey, Adaulfo, Adolfo, or Champagne, is a mango cultivar ORIGIN from Mexico. Ataulfo mangos are golden yellow and generally weigh between 6 and 10 ounces, with a somewhat sigmoid shape and a gold-blushed yellow skin. Do understand where mangos came from. They didnt hatch. Hence not originated in the philippines. The growing seasons with tropical weathers make each philippine grown Ataulfo unique tasty sweet distintivtive and could call its own cultivar. You want to taste prize winning try The most flavourful, Tastiest, Juiciest of all, Banganapalli Mangoes from Ulavapadu India. i just bought a box 9 Lbs or 4 kilo for $50.00 thats less than retail. sounds crazy but there huge and a taste of heaven....See Moreseagel
