I have several good spots that have produced for the past 50 or so years I can remember one time I was 6 or 7 and my Mom and Aunt and I were Morel hunting we filled 3 bread bags and my Mom and Aunt took off there slips tied a knot filled them almost up. true story
I found a spot once where the wet lands raised and receded. There was big poplar trees laying on the ground. The soil was moist and morels were everywhere! I could have filled a pick up truck. The bad thing was snails and slugs were everywhere too. I filled my back pack full and went home. I cut them in half and rinsed them out good. I never did eat them all. I don't think I'll find them like that again. I've gone back several times only to get a couple.
should have put them on craigslist 8.00 per pound, old apple trees or orchards are my favorite, I have also discovered that if a tree is dying or stressed it triggers the morels to sprout by the sugars are what ever the tree is releasing once found so many around the stumps of some oaks that had been cut down over the winter , once was turkey hunting and sat against a big elm tree when it got light there were 2-3hundered growing all around me the tree was dead by that fall , also while looking If you see a tree that's been up rooted by a storm look around the roots and the drip line of the tree also good
