What about a stainless electric water kettle? You could use it to make coffee with a cone, either by the cup or into a glass lined Thermos/carafe. Then you could also heat water for tea or other beverages. I have one similar to this, but mine just has one temp. I thought this would be nice for making different beverages that require different temps.

This is really designed for tea but can make hot water for coffee too. I love mine!

A Keurig would be out because of the plastic, though I regularly use mine just to get hot water for tea or my Café Francais. When my Keurig finally bites the dust I will be at a loss because I've heard that they have changed the newer models to only accept THEIR k-cups.

I think Oly's suggestion would probably be your best bet.

Farberware makes a small coffee pot in which you can make one to four cups. It's all stainless.

Holly ~ There are other brewers that accept K-Cups. The Cuisinart and the Bunn.

Also, by next year Keurig will learn their lesson and fix the 2.0 model . What's really the point when there are multiple hacks out there to over-ride the technology.

I have my mother's farberware all stainless pot from the early sixties for making a larger pot of coffee, but like the idea of the convenience of a quick single cup but using reusable metal mesh so as not to add to the environmental impact of k-cups. And to have the ability for tea. I thought I had found an answer with a Hamilton Beach single scoop with all the talk about all its' stainless steel, but it turns out the internal components, including hot water chamber are plastic. Phooey. I do like Olychick's idea to get anyway, but I'll be having an induction range when I move, and should figure out if it is more costly than to heat water on the stove. At that point I should just scrap my whole tea-coffee center as it's not near the stove. But I'm not ready to give up yet. Thought I was going to easily find something.

I would go with a stainless electric kettle and a glass French press. Tea out of anything that also brews coffee is nasty.

Roxana, they have already made the switch. My dad works at Costco and a fellow employee bought one there only to find out she can't use cups that she has on hand.

4boys, that's it exactly. I am very unhappy that Keurig was so greedy. I am on my second one at this house. I have one in our other home and I purchased one for our business. I am so irritated that I may just decide to go with another one cup brewer just because of this issue.

I don't think people really care if it says Keurig or Smeurig on the maker or the pods.
Simply build a better product ,not try to restrict commerce.

Why not look at an automatic espresso maker that can freshly grind your beans and make espresso, cappuccino, latte, coffee and dispense hot water for tea -- all with push button ease, but a lot more options and control over the process. If you were considering plumbing in a unit, I doubt the cost would be a problem for you. Counter top units are typically a lot less than the built-ins. I'm not familiar with all the brands, but I know Jura seems to start about $1000 new -- man models will show up as refurbished options for less. We bought our first one as a refurbished unit over 10 years ago and D is still using it in his office.

I make my one cup of coffee each morning in a small sauce pan on my stove. So nice to not see a machine on my counter. My pans are Farberware, so they do not pass your anti-plastic proviso.

LOL enmarene! My "anti-plastic proviso" concerns potential toxins which may leach from materials in contact with boiling water or steam, so pot and pan handles are a non-issue. Lascatz, I looked at some of the automatic expresso machines after searching your Juro, and am impressed, but my little cubby is way too small, and my needs include accommodation for large mugs. But I rejected the idea of a plumbed fixture as I had noted.
