Freeze Saturday Night!
Comments (76)i wonder if the rain helped keep the temp just a little higher somehow? anyone know? i'm happy we got rain, regardless of its effect on the freeze. with this wind, the sheets will dry out today quickly. in fact, we'll have to recover some things the wind took off already. so far, a lot of it is staying on, though. haven't been out to see what, if anything is showing damage yet. don't worry about things being bowed over from covering; they recover pretty quickly from that unless the stems snap (or freeze). thanks to several posters for making me feel like i'm not the only one crazy enough to cover everything i can with all i got. i laugh, but i do feel silly. at the same time i really don't want to lose this year's fruit crop! the flowers i'd be sad, but the fruit, i'm really bummed about. last night got to 30 here, so that forecast was right on. the range i'm seeing forecast on reliable sources is 24- 27 for tonight. i sure hope it's on the 27 end....See MoreFreeze Watch Saturday Night...
Comments (55)Ok, but that's even funnier. I spent all day yesterday and all day today in a quilted flannel. I used to walk around in the winter in shorts and a hoodie up north. 3. I agree wet cold is worse... as evidenced by the chill you get when stepping out of the shower no matter HOW warm the room is. I'm a Florida girl at heart. Even though I was born and raised in Michigan, for the first 18 years of my life, I never belonged there. Even as a kid I hated snow. I lived in Mississippi for a year. I lived in South Carolina, too. For three years. Small world... er... east part of the country....See MoreFREEZE warning for Saturday night

Comments (25)Hi Carol, Well, I was more or less speaking for at least the southern half of the state, but I really do think the whole state should be OK. (Not that "my" forecast comes with a money-back guarantee or anything.) LOL The way the weather has been this year, we're all kinda gun-shy about planting even still. I came inside for lunch because we're getting some rain sprinkles. I've been planting some figleaf hollyhocks and Laura Bush petunias in the mixed border by my front and side porch, and some elephant ears as well. This afternoon, if the rain sprinkles allow, it is back to the garden to plant peppers. I hope to get corn, squash, pumpkins and beans in the ground in the next couple of days, and after that, then I'll do my really warm season crops (okra, melons, black-eyed peas, and sweet potatoes) either late this week or early next week. This has got to be the latest I've ever finished planting. Even last year, I had stuff in the ground so that the heavy rains could drown it and kill it. This year, I can't even get it all in the ground. Kirts, I'm going to start my squash and pumpkins inside in paper cups today and transplant them outside in a few days just as soon as their little heads pop up out of the soil, assuming it is raining or snowing or something. This definitely has not been a year where a gardener could plant early (or even on time!) and have much success. And, y'all, while I was typing this, the sprinkles turned into a full-fledged rain shower, so my day in the garden may have ended earlier than I'd hoped. Oh, well, at least the garden and the stuff I planted yesterday and today are getting a good soaking. Dawn...See Morebkay2000
