So how do you make a bunch of junk look presentable? LOL
Comments (8)It wouldn't be so bad if the stuff was JUNK but its all stuff we need so I fight with it. I'm thinking about taking one of the old boards and making a large GARDEN SHED sign or something like that. Then a smaller TOOLS sign or something like that. Isn't there also a sign out there that says something about buying and selling used junk? LOL I'm sure the neighbors will love that! Most of my neighbors aren't that tidy, either. I think our yard is cleaner than some. Both of my neighbors have homes that need cleaned and painted, overgrown shrubs, actual junk sitting around and only mow or do work outside a few times all summer. A few doors down, they have about 20 junked cars in the backyard! LOL So this is NOTHING! It's just bothering me because last week I was up back playing with DD on her swing set and in her sandbox and the neighbor, his gf and his daughter (she's my age and I went to school with her) were out in the yard planting two trees. I don't think she realized that the wind carries stuff and I heard her make some comment about how I supposely thought I was better than everyone in high school (she did not know me very well then because I did NOT think or act like that!) and now look how I live! I live in a trailer but it's fixed up and the yard is landscaped and I have pretty flowers and items about. Many people comment on how NICE we've made the place! DH even went up in the woods and thinned out the weeds and jagger bushes and made us a fire pit and camping spot. The ONLY messy section is the board pile and what not beside the shed! It's not even JUNK! Oh, I was FUMING mad! I told DH when he got home that I really should have yelled back that I AM better than her! LOL Seriously, though, with her history, I can't believe she had the nerve to say that!...See MoreMy, now, not so modest bunch! (Picture heavy)
Comments (11)Sun damage will happen like that, yes. :/ It's a bummer. I envy those cristatas! The Haworthia cymbiformis 'variegata' is absolutely gorgeous. I have debated about ordering that very plant off ebay, but I have ebay seller fear and haven't; that and shipping costs just kill me. But finding it locally probably isn't in the cards, so I may break down and do it pre-Christmas. The Haworthia limifolia var. ubomboensis, which I too have, is really nice as well. My Haworthia are the only succulents I have in the house, and they're nice company at the window in light shade. Haworthia are generally not full-sun-lovers and are pleased in shade/light shade. Graptopetalum paraguayense is an awesome plant. :) And the Dudleya candida is gorgeous. Doing individual searches of each plant will result in a lot of great advice. Your collection's great!...See MoreSo was Earth Day just a bunch of hype?
Comments (9)hype? coverage? "they"? thoughts: Earth Day was "kicked off" on April 22, 1970 as an environmental "teach in" and is now observed in virtually every country on the planet ... a community oriented day that allows everyone to "think and act locally", learning more about their local environment and it's global connections - water supply, quality & distribution - conservation and recycling - etc, etc, etc - providing a vehicle for the "masses" to show their concern about the planet .... our area had presentations, discussions, displays in conjunction with the first Farmers Market weekend of the season ..... I learned that there's a small alternative energy business in town that I hadn't heard of, which is meaningful to me, and the area .... large groups of volunteers did things like removing invasive species "weeds" from important habitat areas, and cleaning the flotsam of "civilization" from local beaches the "masses" need to come to the "message", not be handed it by the news media Bill Here is a link that might be useful: Earth Day is every day...See MoreSo, someone on freecycle tore out a bunch of succulents...
Comments (7)Thank you. I guess my old way was OK! Now I just have to find a dry day to repair the rain damage to my cheap-o greenhouse so they don't get soaked and get some warmth. Getting excited about my new front yard! Getting rid of lawn and boxwood and going with Ca natives and succulents! Most of the houses on the block are late 1800-early 1900 mansions and have very formal gardens. We came just 2 years ago from being country bumpkins at the end of a country lane where no one saw our yard. We bought pretty much the ONLY house under a mil on the street ($650,000 I know, but our acre+ that we bought 30+ years ago brought us a pretty penny here in Sonoma Co. wine country), so we are mortgage free!...See Moreplllog
