O.M.G. I grew up in VN. I never saw windows like that. Our old house in SG was a French colonial style villa with large French style windows. I never saw a mattress or carpet until I left VN. :-D Things have changed so much. Is this attic room in one of those skinny rowhouse that pop up everywhere in VN? Where are you in VN? Okay, sorry for my excitement. Now, back to the topic at hand, I probably would go with woven bamboo shade, or make a fabric roman shade, or the easiest way, simple panels on a rod. Can you open those windows for fresh air? Please show more pics of your house. I'm so curious to see how the decor has changed! Growing up, our house decor was very French colonial, lots of dark teak, and bamboo, sheer drapery panels. Though my GF had a French iron bed and some French antique furniture left from her French brother in law . When I came back for a visit 15 years ago, they still have all the decor intact, exactly as when I was a baby! Such a big difference from America where things are more disposable, and trends come & go so quickly. I wished I can come back to VN again before there's nothing left of the past. Things probably changed too much & what's there now is nothing but a shadow of the VN I remember & love.

No curtains here -- just two-inch white faux blinds. I would love curtains ..... but have four cats ...... I really do believe in switching things out for the season .... in window treatments, bedding and accessories. Mum can remember my Scots grandma taking down the heavy velvet winter curtains every spring to give them a good shaking outside -- and carefully bundling them into cloth bags with lavender sachets. Then the freshly-washed white lace or sheers or "net curtains" would be hung on freshly washed windows. Every spring my Grandma would "bring in" the "paper-hanger" to put up new wallpaper -- and the painters would be in to put a fresh coat on the trim. The area rugs would be taken out and hung over the washing line for a good "beating" ..... And the gardens would be "turned" and ready for vegetables -- and flowers like glorious roses ......

I'm really wanting to do my kitchen and the morning room in a country feel. And I found a pic of my red gingham curtains on that website, that I think just may work. Now just to find a deal on them somewhere. I haven't bought any curtains in a few years and forgot how expesive they are.

IMO no one will see anything in thoe top windows have you actually tested to see what is visible since looking up into windows usaully gives no view at all. I do think you will need some heat and UV control so I would do solar shades I do not think those 2 tiny windows by the FP are not attractive and pretty useless . I would do soalr shades on all the windows then add drapes on the bottom ones for nightime privacy . Solar shades control heat and UV and give you daytime privacy and the big bonus is they allow you the view all day. The darker the shade to better the view so I use 10% and either charcoal or bronze
