Can you post a picture so we can see how the room is decorated?

In my previous WI home the attic was the master bedroom. I had the metal mini blinds in each window. It worked great.

O.M.G. I grew up in VN.
I never saw windows like that. Our old house in SG was a French colonial style villa with large French style windows. I never saw a mattress or carpet until I left VN. :-D

Things have changed so much. Is this attic room in one of those skinny rowhouse that pop up everywhere in VN?
Where are you in VN?

Okay, sorry for my excitement. Now, back to the topic at hand, I probably would go with woven bamboo shade, or make a fabric roman shade, or the easiest way, simple panels on a rod. Can you open those windows for fresh air?

Please show more pics of your house. I'm so curious to see how the decor has changed! Growing up, our house decor was very French colonial, lots of dark teak, and bamboo, sheer drapery panels. Though my GF had a French iron bed and some French antique furniture left from her French brother in law . When I came back for a visit 15 years ago, they still have all the decor intact, exactly as when I was a baby! Such a big difference from America where things are more disposable, and trends come & go so quickly.

I wished I can come back to VN again before there's nothing left of the past. Things probably changed too much & what's there now is nothing but a shadow of the VN I remember & love.

Well, well, well... what can I say about Vietnam now. A lot of changes, I guess, for the better and the worse. But that's the trend, as is everywhere else.

The rooms in the photos above are in our second home (that's what you call it in the States?... the home you normally spend your vacation time at?) in Dalat. I suppose you know Dalat, right? It's on the mountain, 300km north of Saigon. Nowdays I'm here pretty regularly, tending my garden. Should you want to see more of our homes, you can check my blog at the link below. Back to the windows treatment at hand, I might go for Roman shade. The problem is ... how do you hang it from the "opening" on the roof???? (See the second photo above.) I'm at a dead end with this "horrible" looking "window" that my husband has built!!!

For the ceiling window, are you interested in something artistic or something functional? There are blinds made especially for this purpose. If you search for "skylight blinds" you will find a lot like this:

For the low windows... I don't know. They look more like ventilation vents. I wonder if you could get your husband to replace them with actual windows, with glass?

I think a roman shade hung above that louvered window, so it could be retracted to expose the entire window and lowered over it would work.

I love the architecture of the house, is that a combination of Vietnamese and French influences?

Not to be smart but my attic window is decorated w/ a Norman Bates Motel Neon sign w/ 'Vacancy' and a dummy in a rocker w/ an old ladies wig. DH did it yrs. ago for Halloween & it's never come down.

I forgot a/b the rooftop window. I think roll up shade is a good option.

Your blog is great. My grandmother was into gardening & pets also but she loved orchid, chrysanthemums, dahlia, her favorite pets were birds, dogs, and fish. I used to go to Dalat but all I remembered from the place was the pine forests, the mimosas, and the fog. People would go into the forest to hunt for wild orchids.

My dad used to have a vacation home Pleiku -- but that place was very different & a lot less refined than Dalat. :-D There people would go to the forest to hunt for tigers. :-)
