The tile actually has a gray cast, which makes the true white of the tubs look cream. The secret to working with whites is to deliberately use several shades that coordinate, not match. Matching everything leaves the room with no depth and it's all blah. Celebrate the differences in the whites and look for additional opportunities to use more shades of white in the room.

I know that Kohler and Toto make some different color whites but your best best is to get a sample and compare the two. One of the reason I had to remodel my bathroom is that I couldn't stand the creamy color tile next to my very white tub!

Luckily I had a sample of my white tub and was able to use it to match the white in the tile, toilet, sinks and quartz counters. Of course it isn't a 100% match, but most of the items aren't right next to each other, so it looks like the same color as you look around the Bathroom.

If my vision for the room was to have the same white, then having a tub that was not a match would be disappointing. How much tile would you have to change?

Sophie, I am leaning your way of thinking--I know that once everything is in there your eyes will absorb it all. My only fear is that the tub will always look dingy and drive me crazy like Jerzeegirl stated.

Crispa, basically my entire surround is the this Imperial Blanco so it would all have to be changed. However, I don't want to do that as the theme of this bathroom is white not cream so the best option would be to have a brighter white tub.

Jerzeegirl, so what tub manufacturer do you have that is bright white?

Honestly, I am having building fatigue at this point and am getting tired of trying to pursue perfection with everything.

Sorry but I was never able to identify the tub manufacturer. It's original from when the house was built and there is no name attached to it.

Best of luck. We are in the middle of a remodel and I picked out white tile before the tub was delivered. Result? Not a match. Large (12x24) matte white tile next to a "white" Kohler Archer tub makes the tub look lt. mushroom in color. Same if I hold up Toto white next to Kohler. Couldn't sleep last night because of this but unless we fork over $$$ (noticed after tile installed) there is nothing we can do. Rather than looking forward to finally being able to soak in a tub not surrounded by mold, I now am hating the bathroom because of this.

My tub is also a darker white next to my white tile, but now that the room is almost finished, it is really not noticeable. Maybe once you get further in the process, yours will look better as well.

I tend to agree with the others, trying to match ALL the whites can be a pyrrhic victory. Our current remodel had white tiles in both the bath/shower combo and on the bottom of all the other walls. White toilet, white tub, white grout. NONE match! The tiles seem to have this cool, grey cast to them, which I didn't even notice until it was done. Although I do not love the overall look, it's not really that noticeable and everyone seems to think the space looks great (certainly it's an improvement over the old space).

What shade of grout in your room? I think a light tan or a light gray would help to minimize the difference between the tile and the tub.

We used a white grout and it looks fine.

I was running into a similar concern. I just installed an AStandard Evolution tub in Artic White - it is much brighter than other whites I was considering.
