Caring for newly purchased waterlogged blueberry plants

Anita RM

I recently
purchased 3 northern highbush and 2 southern highbush blueberry plants. They
arrived in 2-3 liter containers and looked quite healthy. When repotting
into large 30 liter terracotta pots, I noticed that the original root ball + soil
was very waterlogged and the roots were potbound and looking quite
brown and unhealthy. I scored the rootball a bit and then put the plants into moist acid soil with pine bark mulch on top. They are
currently standing in the large containers on the balcony, where it is still
relatively cold/cool (between 0C and 12C).

My biggest dilemma now is, when should I water them and
how often? The soil they came in really was drenched and the new soil they went into was also plenty moist. All instructions say water in after planting, but that seems counter-intuitive to me....I don't want to end up drowning the poor things. If anyone has any tips, I'd be very grateful!! :)
