Stark Bros. dwarf and semi-dwarf - rootstocks

Inquiries with Stark Bros. produced the following information from Stark Bros. about the rootstocks they use for apples:

"Dwarf" = M9 or M26

"Semi-dwarf" = M7 or Bud 118

Trees they would describe as "Standard" can use Bud 118 also.

Evidently their commercial customers get to choose their rootstocks and the leftovers get tossed together for sale to the public, with no rootstock info available for individual trees. Even if you buy a tree, you don't find out what it is then as there is no rootstock info on the tree.

So here's my question: Suppose one bought some "Dwarf" trees from Stark Bros. - apples in this example - and the trees were a mix of M9 and M26. Is there anything one could do or would notice that would be at least a moderately accurate way of telling one kind from the other? For example, would the trees on M26 be noticeably larger than their M9 companions, for the most part?
