Comments (14)The petunias in pictures are heirloom type "old fashioned vining petunia", they are a little tall at the end of august but they were blooming till the first hard frost about 2 weeks ago. I started most of them inside Feb 17, but lots of them were mistaken with Nicotiana Alata and wintersowed in February too. Those inside started to bloom June 05, those outside, beginning July. I've got lots of seeds and if you like them, e-mail me your address, I can send you enough for a few years:). They were the toughest (not fussy at all with our cold clime) and the longest to bloom compared with all the other petunias I had. I did the hunk-o-seed method with most of them, even with the snapdragon....See MoreNeed Annuals To Conceal Ugly Fence
Comments (6)Welcome to Iowa! I hate chain link fences, too, and I'm a native. But I've been toying with buying a used gate or something to make a trellis out of. The only thing to do with them is cover them up. On one of the main drags, one person's entire fence is completely covered with different colors of morning glories. Sweet peas are lovely, too, but I doubt they would cover the fence as well as morning glories (which can get out of control as they self-seed). I'm into roses right now, so you might want to think of a few vigorous, repeat-blooming climbers and train them on the fence. There are two other outdoor things people build here that uglify their property, those decks with the treated wood and skinny rails, very ubiquitous, also rough-sawn board fences that are vertical and staggered from one side of the other side of the post. Chain link is about the only choice if you have dogs to confine. I do like those board panels with the lattice tops and also the board fences that dip down and back up from post to post. The new plastic fences seem unnatural but very practical. I love pretty fences and beautifully landscaped yards. If you dislike it that much, take it out (try to find a Habitat Restore place to recycle it or run an ad as used ones seem to sell well), and if you can't afford to replace with it with something you like, start some pretty plants or do something else creative instead. I've gotten some marvelous ideas on the old garden roses forum, such beautiful fences, trellises and structures I've never seen before except in magazines. If you can DIY, they are not as expensive as a chain link fence....See MoreHow do you warm things up w/o rugs and curtains?

Comments (38)I'm so naive I thought HU-infinite # of #s was one of those who posted occasionally w/o a 'real' screen name, but it's 'bluegirl' herself, just not in 'living color'... LOL. She said that after the move she couldn't get back on with her old name. Maybe she and some others that have had the same problem can eventually exchange their HU number for a name. Omar, she's probably contacted you privately already, but she told me that she thought the rose she passed along "could be a young Evelyn. It's usually more full, but the color looks right & young roses often aren't as blousey."...See Moredowlinggram
