Comments (6)My wife and I went to a dealer that had both models in stock in a mock up kitchen and were told the following. The BS range has a better flame but the 20k btu burner of the KA is much stronger then the 15K star shaped burner of the BS. The side and front panels of the BS will get much hotter then the KA due to less insulation. The BS oven was not concidered to be a "true" convection oven when compared to the KA, which for me, I didn't really understand. The fact that the burners as well as oven will be much more work to clean was a real turn off for my wife. Keep in mind we have two kids at home that also like to cook but make a real mess while they're at it and don't like to clean up afterwards. The 15K burners on the BS were not strong enough for some homeowners, but that boils down to cooking styles/personal preference. The BS is not able to view cooking temperatures, but that is not a deal breaker, only a set back. Comments (16)KA 20k btu burners are sealed with a very wide heat pattern. Only very wide pans will capture a good percentage of the heat. Even with large pans the Bluestar will have more power actually making it to the bottom of the pan because the heat is directed right to the bottom of the pan not to the side. Plus the heat will be much more even across the bottom of the pan. KA has a history of blowing fuses during self-clean. Better as of late but still something to keep in mind. With KA you get electric oven features but possible electric oven heachaches and cost of repair with integrated circuit boards etc. I can't find the interior dimensions or the broiler rating for the KA but with the BS it will fit commercial baking sheets and you get a very powerful broiler too....See More36" Blue star range- tight on space and can't decide on one electric o
Comments (5)We have a 36" Bluestar and a Miele speedoven and the combination works great. The gas oven is great for most items, but it is large and takes some time to heat up. The Miele which is 240 volts heats up real quick. 350 degrees in a matter of minutes, but it also cooks faster so a learning curve is needed. We use it for microwave, baking and broiling. If large oven is not needed then we always use the Miele. Ours is built in at counter height. A friend has one below counter just a little harder to read display and not as comfortable to use. The 36" blue star is in an island and we love it. Both make a great pair and during holidays both work together. The Miele is pricey, but after 2 years of use it was worth every dollar. Comments (45)Hi All- Well it has been two years since since we received our BS Platinum (and started this thread) and I would have to say we have a love / hate relationship with it. To summarize... What we like: - The burners work great, love the open burners (although the extra Platinum BTU has no value for us) - The stove looks terrific - The integrated wok feature works well, I love this What we don't like: - The grill/griddle is a useless gimmick in my view (sorry to be so direct), why? Because the heat is inconsistent and the handling / replacement is cumbersome. I see no value in these features better to use an outdoor grill and a $20 Lodge cast iron griddle over the burners which is what this really is - The oven has been a disaster to be honest. We have had 4 service calls, first the retrofit for the defective design which melted an oven rack, then once fixed we have struggled to get the oven to maintain a consistent temperature. Too hot or too cold. For the $8k we paid it is totally ridiculous we had better performance with our cheap GE gas range we had before. Bluestar support has been fine but we are out of warranty now and it seems we may be stuck with owning an overpriced lemon. My wife is a professional chef and the lack of temperature control is making her crazy. In conclusion I would say we love the look and burners and really want this to be our special centerpiece appliance but feel that the oven is mediocre and that we overpaid. If we could do it again we would probably buy an RNB or a dual fuel Wolf for better oven temperature control. Come on Bluestar you can do better than this!...See Moremullde
