wife says I am cold and insensitive
Comments (23)ok... I don't know about cold and insensitive... you sound a lot like my husband... I think of him as being totally clueless about the lives that surround him. I agree that is sounds like you both need to see to some counseling... we've been there, and are STILL there) that said... there are things I would like my husband to "just take care of" without being asked... (see if these are things you did/did not do)... Meals do not magically appear on the table, help put them there sometimes. Clean up after meals does not magically happen. Wipe the counters when you see they are messy. It you took it out to use it, put it away, or if it's now empty toss it and put it on the shopping list. Pick up your laundry and toss it in the hamper. Maid service is not existant in our house, clean up after yourself. Schedule your own appointments at times you know are convenient for you. We both get up to go to work, if the child (or pet) needs someone during the night... take turns, your job is no more important than mine. Being an at-home mom is a job, with p-poor pay by the way. Remember birthdays, holidays, school events, etc. Just becasue your family ignored these while you were growning up does not mean our family should. The washing machine/dryer do not require female attention, they respond to males also, and do not require anything onther than about an 8 year old mentality to operate. Poor planning on your part does not mean an emergency for me. I may opt to help out, but do not expect me to, unless you are willing to recipricate when I plan poorly. You don't drop things when I ask for help with something, don't expect me to drop things for you. Treat me at least as well as you treat your co-workers, I am your spouse, not your slave. I think you get the idea... I think in any marriage there nees to be a flow of give and take... and for whatever reason it seems that frequently the males seem to want the Ozzie and Harriet home... but the modern life of equals in a marriage... it doesn't work... both people have to be willing to be flexible, BUT especially when children are small, a lot more of the burden of the children shifts to the wife, without anything really ever "leaving" her plate... my favorite question to my husband to make him stop and think was/is... what changed in your daily life with the addition of children into our family? To be honest, he would freely admit that he had added "responsibilities" mental and financial... but that he really didn't do anythng "extra" around the house or for the children... that that ALL fell to me... while we were both working full time at very comparable jobs.... Is it any wonder I was stressed and feeling lke I wanted to just strangle him some times??? A child adds a lot to a household... multiple children are exponential additions in the younger years... THINK Good luck...See MoreNeed help with my Wife's potted tulips I purchased for her.
Comments (4)Tulips need a winter chill. You could try storing them in the fridge for 8 weeks starting around October and then potting them up and setting them outside. The fridge should not hold any fruit like apples, because the chemicals sent out by apples will affect the bulbs in a negative way. But really--Tulip bulbs are meant to be briefly enjoyed then tossed. Even in climates where they can come back every year--they usually only come back for a few years and then vanish. If you want a bulb that will bloom every year in a pot, get a Hippeastrum, commonly called Amaryllis (but they are really Hippeastrum). Have a look at the Amaryllis forum--Hippeastrums make Tulips look pretty wimpy by comparison!...See MoreI'm helping my friend unclutter her home. She is a widow.
Comments (23)No, it did not sound as if your friend was one of those who was threatened to be killed by her hoarding. Not all are like that. I have seen people who just resort to shopping as a crutch when life happens. As a person who is devoted to an uncluttered lifestyle, I struggle with my daughters house. I have to almost tie my hands when I go there. Her life is so full with commuting, career and family that I cannot help but see, that if her home was less cluttered it would be so much easier to manage. They are not really hoarders. They are clutterers. Even just putting anything away is twice the chore it ought to be because so much has to be juggled. Most of that juggling is so totally unnecessary if they would only cull out the useless from the useful. Everything is a balancing and juggling act. Why? Meanwhile, it grieves me to see her so strung out and stressed so much of the time when I know how true it is that clearing the clutter and having a more organized environment makes the chores of life and family flow so much smoother. They really need some calm and order in their lives....See MoreShould I tell my friend her "Interior Decorator" is ripping her off?
Comments (46)Wow lots of heated opinions! But thanks for sharing them! It's interesting to hear all the different thought processes. Olychic: Ouch! We are very good friends, I just tend to overthink things! And I'm also just ridiculously curious about how people think so it's sort of fun for me to hear all the different opinions. :) But I am super glad I just went with my gut. Anyway I just wanted to update you all. It all worked out much easier than anticipated. I asked her how the project was going and that got her talking about how the ID is now delaying the project by quite a bit and blaming her for bad communication....(smh) Anyway turns out she's already having second thoughts, so I didn't really need to say much. I just mostly agreed with her and threw in a couple of ideas too. She's going to try to somehow renegotiate. Hopefully it goes well! I'm grateful to everyone who posted. Thank you!...See More- 11 years ago
