White sapote
Comments (5)Well,climate aside, they are heavy feeders. With a tendency to sit and sit..then take off with a boost of fertilizer of your choice. They dont seem picky.I have had them turn a lush green and flush on old Ammonia sulphate that had coagulated into a small boulder..tossed under the tree, stepped on..etc. Organics would be fine too-less guilt towards the environment i'm sure. All this in Northern California-the bay area. Here, they get plenty of cool nights for that need....See MoreThe Great Sapote fruit.. ready to take its place...
Comments (15)Sorry I don't have a picture and don't think my equipment would handle it anyway but there are several white sapote trees growing near me in a public park. I have no idea what variety or how long they've been there but they are HUGE and bear TONS of FRUIT! I've never seen much fruit on the ground, and once I discovered them on a dogwalk I began checking on the trees, squeezing the fruit, because I wanted to sample some. So far my checking hasn't intersected with their ripeness. Folks do complete picking raids on "unsupervised" fruit trees in my neighborhood and I'm curious if that's the fate of these trees. Huge old fruit trees for ornament which are unharvested by the owner are relatively common here in Los Angeles and those seem to be preyed upon - whereas my heavily supervised small trees have yet to be raided. The first white sapote I ate was a hostess gift from a guest neighboring such an enormous old local sapote tree he said the owner was giving away bushels and picking and cleaning was burdensome....See MoreTeasing Georgia, Bathsheba, Roald Dahl, The Wedgewood Rose...
Comments (49)Helen, you are right, people have different taste. I just love the picture of your Pompom Veranda. I saw a picture of Earth Angel on the website and got one for myself. I love pink, but I really really love the color and form of Pompom Veranda and Eden. Helen. you must have acre and acre of lands for you to grow so many roses. I have a small garden so I have to get the ones I truly love. But too many roses, and not enough space in the garden, I have to give a way somes to my friends when I get new ones. By the way, anyone here have South Africa rose. I saw a tree rose full of buds at the nursery but didn't get one. The picture on line shows different forms of the rose. Thank you Helen and everyone here....See MoreA reminder on White Sapote for new growers of it...
Comments (5)In fact next spring, the plan is to pollard the Sapote. Instead of my yearly or twice yearly pruning, just cut it to a frame,it should flower, and fruit plenty the year after that. I wont have to prune it again for years- and get lots of fruit still....See Moregrant_in_arizona
