Newly opened pink flowers turning... purple?
Comments (33)Hi Planto, Sounds like you have a plant that is not the one some of us were suggesting. Could be, it is from another grower, not Optimara. Diana, I have Little Hopi Girl II, it is definitely a mini and came from a florist locally who gets them from O and only sells minis. Were you going to order one for yourself? I bought three of them. It is a very strong plant. One died because the florist did not take care of it. After the other two finished blooming, I put them into larger pots, not knowing that is not recommended for a mini. Each of the other two promptly developed three crowns, so I separated them. I gave three to my club members and sent one away to a new home. I kept the other two, which are now blooming again. The club liked it and ordered some for themselves, but one had solid purple blooms on one side and the deep pink with fantasy on the other side. Anyway, I would recommend it, as a strong plant. If mine develop multiple crowns again, will let you know. It looks much better as a single crown plant and was not blooming when it had three heads. My theory is that because the two separated crowns are from the same plant, they have the exact same bloom cycle. The blooms when closed are dark purple, but when they open, the pink is dominant. By the way, regarding the photo that you i.d. for Planto, could it be another O, such as Rebecca, that has a deeper color? The photo on my monitor is a darker blue. Or do you know if it is only Manitoba that has the little dent at the top? Interesting about the little notches, will have to notice more on one I have that I think is Manitoba when it blooms again. Comments (10)I have lots of tall clear vessels, they are all filled with silver/gold/blue glass balls, silver bells, silver glitter stars, etc right now. You think if I just did one or 2 with pink and orange balls and maybe threw something else in there that was not at all Christmas (like what I have no clue) then it wouldn't look Christmasy? Then if I extended that into the kitchen which is open to the dining room could I do that without it looking Christmasy? At what point have I gone over the line and stepped into the 'oh you were just trying to use your Christmas balls at times other than Christmas' arena?;)...See MoreFront yard, before, after and what next? Comments (51)No, I don't think you should remove the sidewalk either. You're on a budget. I'm suggesting removing the brick and replacing it with stone with something like blue star creeper planted between them. One, you don't know what's under the brick, so if you wanted to plant, you'd need to dig it out, amend, raise it up as much as 12". Two, if you replace the brick with shrubs, it can be a little colorless and need regular pruning to keep it neat. I don't like wild shrubs at an entryway. You do need shrubs under your window and could use something large to anchor the corner. Someone in your area might suggest some attractive, well-behaved shrubs--I like box honeysuckles for shade but IDK if they grow in your area. Three, annuals alone wouldn't work because you'll have bare soil October until June or July--annuals need heat to take off here, especially in the shade. So that's my thinking--a pretty stone mini patio with some greenery between the stones, with pots for color that can be seen from the road. Another thing you could do is just take out some of the bricks along the edges and corners, and maybe a few in between, and plant groundcovers in the holes. Then proceed with pots....See MoreOpen after cold nights
Comments (8)Thanks so much, everyone! Debra, Flying Carpet was light beige until a few days ago. Every year I think about eliminating it because it opens late, flowers are very small, but there are worse things I still keep )) Yesterday we cut the tree down and they will get more sun now. Too bad a big log rolled over and flattened several of them, including FC, oops. Mantis, that's true, plus the foliage looks bad at this time of year, but usually beginning of August is still hot. Kay, that's what I said, these temps belong in the fall....See More- 9 years ago
