Installing Appliances into Inset Cabinetry
Comments (2)We will have a dishwasher with a custom panel in a row of inset cabinets. Our base cabinets will be 29" deep so we will have plenty of room to push the DW back, but if we were trying to fit it into 24" deep cabinets, there are a bunch of DWs that just plain wouldn't fit. You need to study the specs and installation instructions for your appliances, look at their backsides in a showroom to confirm they match the specs and then confirm with your cabinetmaker or cabinet supplier that they will install in the "hole" in the cabinetry. Or you can hire someone to do all that for you....See MoreInset install for warming drawer with custom panels ?
Comments (11)FWIW Pecan, that's exactly how the GE Monogram WDs are designed to accept a custom panel! Buy a black or white one plus a 'panel kit', remove the black or white front and attach the panel. TValenti - The GE has the front flange. Again, FWIW, we even looked at mounting the flange against the BACK side of the cabinet face (we also had extra depth) and recutting the face dividers so the part of the WD door that remains could recess in, but then ran into the venting issue. It's a PITA! Our WD is in the center drawer of the stack simply because that's how the cabinet company makes their cabinets and I didn't think to make it at the top. It COULD be that putting your WD as the top item in the stack might give you a bit more installation flexibility. Something to look at anyway......See Morecountertop overhang with flush inset base cabinets?
Comments (4)I have inset cabinets and did a 1/2 inch overhang. I have a traditional kitchen. I agonized over this and at this point cannot remember why but then worried that it was too short and stuff would run down the counter. I've had no trouble with it but would be more concerned if it was smaller because of the lack of the buffer to the cabinet fronts- for both standing in front or drips coming down....See MoreBeaded Inset - Flush Appliances
Comments (7)The run of cabinets with counter space in this layout is about 3 ft longer than my current layout. Those are shelves/cabinets on either side of the banquette to organize the mail, papers etc. and create the cozy window seat nook that I have always wanted. We have a peninsula now and its useless. It limits the prep space on the right side of the sink and collects mail and papers. When we have a large crowd no one stands along the edge as you get trapped in the corner. I also feel it creates a barrier getting to the table. Without the peninsula that counter provides more prep space. I wanted to treat the prep and dining spaces as one rather than cutting in half with a peninsula. I noted that the kitchens I loved the most had continuous cabinetry from one wall to the other. The island is intended to be a place for 1, at most 2, people to sit for quick meals and a place for people to stand and/or food to be served when we have guests. Length will be 8' or less. It will also be designed to be totally open on one end and look more like a table and not a long, skinny heavy "block". Perhaps the pic attached shows it better. I am primarily concerned with the DW. I know the counter depth fridge will not be flush and the range needs to protrude from the cabinets. I wanted to be sure that the sides of the range are not exposed though. Just checked the AJ Madison site and the Fisher Paykel comes up as fully integrated 22 1/2" depth. I've read that Miele and Bosch are recommended for totally flush. Bosch fully integrated depths vary but none less than 22 1/2" so I'm guessing the Fisher Paykel will be flush. I'll probably make a trip to the appliance store sooner rather than later tho....See MoreUser
