My Edmunds Roses came today!
Comments (5)Okay thanks guys, mine are now potted up and in my three sided window area. I will bring them outside when it is over freezing for a few days in a row, lol! I am nervous about potting them up although I don't know why. I did use a good potting soil. I guess only time will tell. I potted up my Palatine roses that came in Nov. 2013, wintered them inside and planted them in the ground in spring 2014 and they are fine but I did have one from that batch that didn't leaf out so was a loss (Philatelie) -- ugh, so nervous about these. In pots I have Neil Diamond, Raspberry Cream Twirl Climber, and Rio Samba. I NEED Neil Diamond to make it, I think I am most excited about that one. :) Andrea...See MoreHosts direct order came today
Comments (4)Thank you all. I did send the pictures to Hostadirect customer service. They were great. They took the pictures to the nursery and compared the pictures to what was in the nursery. Come to find out there was a mess up and I received 2 marmalades and the plants should have had the tags attached to them. So they are sending me out a ginger peach....See MoreFirst mail order plants of the year came today..unpotted
Comments (24)If we cannot plant outside (in the exact, desired spot) immediately, (and we plant all year round in the UK unless ground is frozen solid), we do something called 'heeling in' which is a temporary planting in a sheltered spot (north wall is ideal as we want to avoid a freeze/thaw cycle which is common in an easterly facing direction - morning sun). We either place the plants on their side and cover with a loose substrate - mulch) or dig a shallow trench enough to cover the crown and roots. Bare-root planting used to be the only way plants were moved between locations, (before the internet and global transport networks). Nurseries would lift the plants directly from the fields...so it follows, if they can be lifted to transport, they can also be replanted, even in dire weather (although bare-root woodies would sometimes be held in cold storage). Literally, only the threat of frost heave and undiggable ground prevents planting out of hardy perennials and bare root shrubs and trees....See Morececily
