Houzz/GW user question re: signing out

Cross posted from the Kitchens forum, because I couldn't find this one:

I just activated my GardenWeb account, and am logged in. Now I
can't log out! I hit 'sign out' under Your Houzz, but it just sits
there and spins. If I close the browser and go back in, I'm still
logged in. I don't want to remained signed in forever, but I can't find
any forum for technical questions.

I am using Firefox 35.0.1

Have you rebooted your computer? It may not help, but that would be the first thing to try. Also, what are your settings within Firefox's Tools/Options for s? Lastly, does this happen when using another browser?

I'd probably delete cookies, at least the ones related to Houzz and Gardenweb. (Options>>Privacy>>Show Cookies and search for them)

With my login cookie gone, I'd be logged out. After logging in again, I'd be hoping that next time, I could log out the proper way.

Not that I ever log out, I don't, nobody else on this machine.

Ann's recipe is similar to what is made in Mexico and used as a condiment for almost every meal. It is spread on split bolillos to make tortas (Mexican sandwiches). I make a spicer bean dip that is somewhat closer to what comes in a can: Ingredients: 1-1/4 cup dried pinto (or red) beans (about 2 cups cooked) 1/2 large onion, coarsely chopped 2 tbsp cumin 1 bunch of cilantro, large stems removed, about 2/3 cup chopped 1 can Ro-Tel tomatoes (10 oz.) or similar tomatoes, diced with green chilies, drained, liquid reserved 2 (or more) Serrano or Jalapeno chilies, coarsely chopped and seeded 6 tbsp chopped fresh oregano (or 2 tbsp dried oregano) 1 tbsp soup base - vegetable or beef (or salt to taste, about 1 tsp) Place dried beans in large pot and cover with water to about 3-4 times original depth. Bring to a boil and boil for two minutes, cover, and remove from heat and allow to soak for one hour. Discard the soaking water and rinse and sort the beans. Cover with fresh water, with about two inches above the soaked beans, and bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for one hour, or until done, and discard the cooking water. Place all of the ingredients except the beans in a food processor and process until smooth. Add the beans, and if needed, add a bit of liquid from the canned tomatoes to aid in processing. I remove the seeds from the chilies and save them, in case it comes out too bland. I make these at least once a month and use it when I make Migas, tostados, and burritos. I make several types of burritos with this dip, including breakfast burritos that include scrambled eggs (which I cook more like an omelet). Lars

GW to Houzz user name change?

Say what you wish about a Houzz member already having registered my user name. I don't buy it in my case or many other cases, but that's the reason they gave me. But answer me this, why is MY e-mail address not usable? Houzz claims it is already being used. Well, they are wrong. It's my e-mail address and has been used on GW since 1998 when it was THS. Plus, it is the one that I have been communicating with Houzz to remedy my user name and my requests for them to unlock my e-mail address for my usage.. It is my opinion the notification plan was poorly done. and the migration plan was even worse. DA

K- I know many forums limit their edit time. It makes sense to me because I have seen situations where people substantially change their post after they get responses and then the rest of the comments in the thread make no sense. Could it be that you can't edit your post because the edit window has passed? Edited to add - It's been a while and I can still change my post. So, never mind :)

A shot in the dark here. Have you tried signing out with the FF add-ons disabled? I'm wondering if one of them is blocking this action.

For your desired purpose remember when signing in to uncheck "Keep me signed in".

Well so far, the only thing that works is deleting cookies. I don't know anything about add ons, I'd have to ask DH about that. There are a few scripts blocked in NoScript, but they aren't ones that are specific to this site or anything. I tried to temporarily allow all, and that didn't help. I don't have another browser on this laptop, maybe I'll try Chrome on my tablet.

It's not that big a deal, I only need to log in when I want to comment, which I rarely do. I guess I can delete cookies to log out.

I signed out just for drill - no sweat. Took maybe 2-3 seconds to go to completion. Ahhhh but signing back in there's the rub. Went round in circles several minutes till it finally took. No idea houzz it happened. Either I'm signed in or don't exist. Don't never sign out.

I don't sign out.. but always have to sign in. When I close my IE browser it automatically deletes temp files and cookies.

Just tried, it lets me manually sign out and in no problems.

What is your concern about not being able to sign out? I definitely want to sign out of things like my banking web site when I'm finished, but I don't see what the downside is of being logged in to a site like Houzz.

It's probably an irrational concern. :) I go through spells of getting up to 200 spam emails a day, for days on end. I have no idea where they originate, but I just feel better about logging off of any site that I'm not currently using.

I would have suspected NoScript but since you tried temporarily allowing all, I suppose not.

Maybe your DH has another security add-on installed. Ghostery maybe? Just a wild guess.

I bet if you were to restart with add-ons disabled, you could log out: How to start Firefox in safe mode

That wouldn't tell you which add-on though, just that it was(or wasn't) an add-on.
