Anyone have a source for this unusually colored tasmanian violet? The normal form has a light flower with a purple center, and is commonly available. I was sent that in error by one nursery. V.hederaceae'Baby Blue' or 'Wilsley Blue' is solid pale-violet blue. I know it exists because I had one many years ago and did not realize it was such a tender perennial. The plant itself, probably not a true violet,is listed under another name now. Also posted this in Violet forum.

Greenhouse, That's just where I got mine. Christie, I'd suggest you try WM in the spring since I doubt they'd have them now. Anyway, that would be quicker than growing it from a leaf. I've just now got a couple of wee babies from a leaf I planted in June. The suspense was quite boring:-) Krys

It is Viola hederacea 'Baby Blue' I, too, used to think this was called 'Baby Blue Eyes' until I was corrected. Viola hederacea is undergoing a little revision at the moment; it may be split into several species. Rob Peace knows more than I do on this matter. True, it would not be totally hardy in NJ. But at least it sets seed more freely than the normal species sold as V. hederacea, so you might be able to keep it going by seed. But they do nicely in cool conservatories, so you could try potting it up come winter, as an alternative.

Buy two sample-sized pots and paint a good-sized swatch of each on the wall. (The little paint chips won't do it.) Then make yourself a score sheet, and each time you pass through the room at different points of the day, put a tick mark for the one you like best. Add notes on the bottom of the page if one looks magical or less-good at a certain time of the day or in certain weather conditions. One other point about blue-violet tones -- They can be hard to decorate around. My older son's nursery was a violet-blue, and while we loved the color, lots of mainstream baby blues didn't play well at all. Since your room is an office, that may not be an issue -- but finding accessories that look good may be a bit tricky. Though most pinks were wonderful -- ;-)
