You probably saved the order somewhere - so you can check everything. My first take was - it is not it - but the flowers are shaped very similar - distinct pansies on Xlong bloom stalks - and some search showed that some growers have AFA with similar variegation pattern - I am thinking it is probably a sport, not a mislabeled plant. If you think that all initial wild species are blue - it should be something in the genes left from them to surface. The regular AFA has thin flimsy leaves, you put the leaf down - it doesn't give the babies easily - you have more die-outs than with anything else. I grow it for 5 years - and it doesn't want to give me 3 crowns, only 2 and it stays small. Some varieties are just less strong than others. Irina

Note that the so-called Labrador violet, with purple leaves and blue flowers is Viola riviniana 'Purpurea'. The true Labrador violet is a tiny thing native to the far north, perhaps not even in cultivation. The local weed with green leaves and rosy flowers, often partly faded or bleached while still open is believed to be V. riviniana. Like the purple cultivar it may sow itself where not wanted. My neighbors to the south once had a fine big display of it, in their lawn. Perhaps the patch is still there.

Still looking. A kind person sent seed, at great expense, from France. Did not grow. Logee's had it, years ago. Ordered it from some other vendor, and it was the normal clone, which is purplish with a dark eye. Baby blue really is a solid light violet blue.

It is Viola hederacea 'Baby Blue' I, too, used to think this was called 'Baby Blue Eyes' until I was corrected. Viola hederacea is undergoing a little revision at the moment; it may be split into several species. Rob Peace knows more than I do on this matter. True, it would not be totally hardy in NJ. But at least it sets seed more freely than the normal species sold as V. hederacea, so you might be able to keep it going by seed. But they do nicely in cool conservatories, so you could try potting it up come winter, as an alternative.
