Comments (4)I've done all I could and it wasn't enough, so I told my friend it will have to be someone else's challenge. Today I pulled a trap and augered (3/8" diam.) 12', which got into the vertical, and that was as far as I could go. No sign of grease. Then, from the roof (flat on a 2 story + basement), I went down 25' and pulled up some bits of steel wool. I'm glad I did not use the sulfuric, since it's still totally blocked somewhere near the basement floor, and since it may be a steel wool issue. I think it's a combo of ground up steel wool and washing machine lint, since that is discharged into a basement laundry sink and "someone" got lax in cleaning the filter. The clogged vertical is also leaking onto the basement floor under the laundry sink. (Two 2" verticals merge right before they go into the floor.) I'm a bit surprised that it's not pushing up into the laundry tub, as the wye is 1' below the laundry waste arm on the other 2" vertical. Anyway, thanks for the feedback....See MoreHelp: Possible Clog in the main drain?
Comments (2)You may have roots in your main drain that need to be cleared away. As Homebound said, call a company that does this sort of work. I used a company called Zoom and they have franchises in many places. They did a much better and longlasting job than the rotorooter types. (I have no interest in the company). Here is a link that might be useful: Zoom...See MoreStandpipe for Kitchen sinks clogged with grit

Comments (7)This has little-to-nothing to do with the garbage disposal or anything in front of where the washing machine ties in to the drain line in the back. You have a restricted drain line that will probably only be cleared by snaking the drain from that cleanout. The problem is likely a combination of lint from the washing machine and grease and such from the kitchen sink. I can't really tell from the photos, but I think that the drain is also undersized. Laundry drains are supposed to be 2". Again, I'm guessing because I can't tell from the photo, but that looks like standard 1-1/2" drain for the sink. I'm going to assume that the washing machine was added later. Washing machines, particularly standard top loaders, can move a lot of water when they are draining. That's why they need a larger drain line. You can't fix the drain line size, but you can snake the drain....See MoreJoel L
