Should I replant this Camellia? peat and soil conditioner mix
Comments (9)Nice bloom, Joe. I have been trying to add one or more sasanquas as the only ones that I have are japonicas that bloom in mid season and are sometimes affected by what the weather is doing at the time. Last year, we had so many wild temp swings that the plants started blooming in Jan (normal is December) then stopped and started back in late March. But my definition of trying is that I am thinking about it only. Hee hee hee! I do not think I would have used a root stimulator on such a large specimen but that is just personal preference. I tend to use them with bare root specimens or when propagating cuttings but such a huge camellia would not need much help. I use mild ones on azaleas and rhodies due to their fibruous root systems but a "medium" strength would probably work on camellias. My soil is alkaline so I have to amend it for the camellias. I always amend in Spring and repeat in mid-late summer when the hydrangeas complain. Camellias usually do not "complain" of alkalinity for me. They must tolerate it. What is this mixer that you were talking about in your last comment?...See MoreTomato leaves got bit by frost, should I replant?
Comments (11)I would suggest replanting with something that is not so stressed. Even if they started to pull through somehow they would be a pest magnet. Also they would probably not get a chance to set fruit before the heat wave hits. I know it is not fun. I lost only one plant with this last minor frost. In truth the plant was still hanging on. The problem was branches, and leaves started dying off quickly. It was just starting to recover from the damage caused by a hail storm a few weeks ago. I also have replanted twice this year. Frost killed off my plants two times since the first week of March. Last frost date here was supposed to be Mar. 15. I bought transplants. I have some that I started from seed too late. Though I am going to plant them out as well. I have them for back up. The plant I yanked is now replaced by one of my Black Krim plants I hardened off. I covered everything I could with anything I had. The plants in my 4 foot by 4 foot raised bed were too big to cover with buckets, or pots so I used bamboo poles, and clear plastic. I opened it up the next day, shook off the condensation. I covered things back up that night due to a projected dip to the mid 30's. I noticed one of the Better Bush plants had brown spots all over it. I gave it three days. The leaves were turning all brown so I pulled it. It was a shame as it already had 3 fruit set, and more blooms open before the cold snap....See MoreHelp! 2nd attempt - what color roof should I choose
Comments (13)I hate to waste peoples' time while I'm learning. You can test your attempts by using the "Preview Message" function. You can preview your attempt, and then don't post the final message. I'd like to learn to quote people too. This is also done with angle brackets -- these things . Here's how. 1. Highlight the part of the text you'd like to quote. 2. Right click. 3. Click on "copy". 4. Then type two italic commands, like this: -- EXCEPT that instead of square brackets, use angle brackets. You'll notice that the two commands are the same, except that the second command has a slash. The first command starts the italic, then second command ends it. 5. Place your cursor between the two italic commands. 6. Right click. 7. Click on "Paste". This will paste your text between the italic commands. The command will look like this: I'd like to learn to quote people too. EXCEPT that you will have angle brackets, not square brackets. 8. Click on "Preview Message". 9. You will now see your italics, like this: I'd like to learn to quote people too. This system also works with underscore commands (use a "u") and boldface commands (use a "b") and strikeout commands (use a "s")....See MoreOops, my succulent roots broke off! How do I reroot/replant?
Comments (10)Sorry, but no, I must pls. disagree. I'd guess that peaty mix is rotting the roots off, & needs to be changed. Haws are vulnerable to root rot already & leaving it on that bad mix invites further rot. Once the rot climbs the roots to the base of the plant, it's all over, the whole thing will collapse, sorry. Pls. buy some cactus & succulent mix & also perlite, mix the 2 50/50 & plant in that. Otherwise, if you leave that plant on that mix, especially if you bury the roots, it's unlikely to make it. Better to water plants earlier in the day so they can have the warmer day to take it up. Do not water this plant until you correct the soil; repot then wait another week....See Morerina_Ontario,Canada 5a
