What kind of tape to use?

We were Freecycled a Stir-Crazy popcorn popper. It works perfectly, except that the lid has a few cracks in it.....one fairly substantial. We're afraid of breaking it more every time we wash it.

Because of this I ordered a new Stir Crazy on Amazon and it came yesterday. It went back this morning.......the kernels burned and about 30 popped and this is after 10 minutes. We hauled out the old one and in 4 minutes the bowl was full of fluffy popcorn, so we knew it wasn't the kernels themselves.

We have a strip of masking tape over the crack but would duct tape work? Can you think of anything suitable?
